I just read this and I must say it was verrrrrrrrry interesting. It's part 1 of 8, called "Face the Face." Of course the Face is the former Two-face Harvey Dent, who is now a vigilante running all over Gotham busting the baddies quite brutally. In the start the KGBeast gets pushed off a building by Dent. Later he is found dead with holes in his head...I don't know if Dent pulled the trigger yet. Later Poison Ivy causes a rukus on top of a building and Gordon, who is back to commisioner, goes to the top of the building to use the bat-signal for the first time since it was shown in the first issue of Infinite Crises. Batman and Robin show up immediately, and Robin is Dick Grayson again!-- At least that's my assumption. Also Gordon states that a rookie cop also on the roof reminds him of Barbara, and Batman hints at something TERRIBLE that happened to Dick. I assume Barbara (Dick's fiance) bites it during the year. Batman is very positive in his comments to Gordon and it's clear that this is a new Batman, not the dark angst-ridden Batman we currently have in the DCU. Batman and Robin hop in the Bat-plane to head to the Ivy-infested tower and save the day like Batman says, "It's what I always do." Can't wait for part 2!

 

Hmmmmm I reserve Judgemnt until I read more, but so far I have reservations about them screwing with the Batman univerise I have loved for so long

 

As far as I could tell, that was the Tim Drake Robin.

 

I don't imagine anything bad has happened to Barbara Gordon. Judging from some of the things that were said at a couple of the comic cons this year, it sounds like she's not going anywhere (especially on foot  ).

There've been a lot of rumors about something happening to Dick, though. Exactly what it is, we'll just have to wait and see.

 

Babs is fine. She's in Birds of Prey OYL.

As for this issue...I was "meh" on it. It was more a "WTF?" issue than anything else.

 

Well Dick is alive in the outsiders so I guess he makes it through or comes back OYL

 

I'm pissed I missed this one. Now I have to try tracking it down when it arrives at Borders.

Interesting. Except, I have no interest in a chest-puffing, Mighty Mouse Batman. The angsty Batman revamp of 20-odd years ago now is what made the character appealing to me in the first place. Take that away and I'm not going to buy the book(s).

But, I guess a bunch of old farts said the same thing, "WTF? this isn't Batman!" when DKR came out. Different generation, different tastes. But, will it actually stick around this time or is it all just a WTF? prelude to his reverting back to 'normal.'

 

it was Tim. It was revealed that neither Bruce or Tim would be replaced in their roles in the various Newsarama articles on OYL. And that the Nightwing in the Outsiders would stil be Dick. As far as I know, Babs is still Oracle too.

The only status quo shifts to the Bat-family:
* Harvey Bullock is back on GCPD
* Jim Gordon is back as Commish
* The sociopathic Batman who drives away everyone that cares about him because he refuses to trust anyone is not back. This is going to be the pre-80s Crisis/bronze age era Batman who can smile and be a bit of a smart ass, while still kicking your ass.


Batgirl's fate will be revealed over in Robin.

 

If you hate the DCAU Batman then, yes, you will hate the new comics too.

 

Change is constant, and if batman is actual gonna make a crack or two then its all good. He wont be like spider-man where every other line is a smart ass remark but it be nice to see batman have a sense of hummor.

 

I prefer a Batman who's willing to work with other heroes. Green Lantern # 9 rocked as Batman made up with Hal.

Not sure what DCAU you've been watching, but Batman has never been roses and sunshine in any of those series. He makes it quite clear that he prefers to work alone, and that he distrusts the entire concept of the league. He's there in JLU to keep everyone else honest. Not exactly a happy guy, certainly not a chest-puffing hero who boldly claims "It's what I always do!!".

So, if he is like the DCAU Batman, that'll be fine.... if he's a happy smiley batman, no thanks.

That's fine and dandy if he's like the DCAU version ... but pre DKR, non-dickhead, non-brooding, no paranoia or distrust Batman? Man, screw that. That's what makes Batman interesting.
