From the Transformers Facebook page:
Seriously, nice to see them acknowledging Scrounge's origins and blatently saying why Computron exists.
Did he say Lightsteed? or Lightspeed?
He says Lightsteed. Lightspeed might have been too generic for Hasbro to secure the name for.
Probably a trademark issue.
Well, he exists, good for those asking Hasbro for him... But lucky for me it's not the only way I can get all the Technobots.
In all seriousness, while he's an easy pass for me, I am glad Hasbro pulled the stick out of the butt and made him available for everyone not getting the Takara one, the single Scattershot was so much trolling it wasn't funny... Or was it? Hmmm... probably not...
I'm pretty excited for this set. Hopefully I'll have the cash by September.
I'd much rather see the designer desk for UW Computron.
When the original mass retail Scattorshot was decide to be made, Hasbro had no plans of making a Computron. By the time Scattorshot was revealed and they then realized the demand for Computron was there.
I feel I should also note, most modern figures of the past few years are designed with their retools and repaints entirely in mind. John Wardne said that himself. So when Silverbolt was being designed Cyclonus and Scattorshot were taken into consideration, and most figures are designed a year to six months before release, depending on what it is. There was no trolling.
That would indeed be cool if Takara posted vids like this - Takara Pulse etc.
This is probably the same reason why Hasbro has use of the same head as Takara for Afterburner. The remold option was there since Takara made Deluxe Groove.
Hasbro and Takara co-create most of the figures together in some way.
Regardless of who really designs it the most(or all of it), they both has use of the mold as they see fit. The constant back n' forth between them also includes all the re-uses of a mold. As far as we know, the Starscream was designed by Hasbro because it was on the back of every single pack-in comic, yet was only used by Takara. Takara obviouslt designed most of the unique elements of their Computron, but Hasbro could have used them too. I'd imagine timing and budget had something to do with it though.
Yeah; we know Hasbro did the Starscream head as an alternate, but Afterburner was a mold Takara opted to do themselves due to not wanting to use Rook.
Now, once Takara had made the mold, provided it passed all the requisite safety standards Hasbro has (which it clearly did), Hasbro WAS able to use it. But it's clearly not the same people behind the mold given flourishes like the clear windshield/lightpiping (which none of the CW toys have)
I know how it all works with retools being already in mind, I was being sarcastic about the trolling. And I also know exactly why they didn't release a whole Computron before, also hence why torso mode was called Betatron, not Computron.
"No plans?" - that's a rather generous reading of events.
The standalone CW Scattorshot was released alongside the Combaticons (he was in the same wave as Onslaught).
So around the same time Scattorshot came out, they released CW Deluxe Brawl, which was pretooled with a Nosecone drill. Even if the release schedule was still up in the air around that time, they must have had some inkling it was going to happen down the line.
They obviously were planning for it long before Scattershot was released individually as a Voyager, but plans to release Scattershot by himself were not going to be impacted by the possibility of releasing him in a box set as well.
I'm guessing they gone in the minimalist approach is due to budget related issues due to making THEM and the Destrons?
Might explain why Lightsteed is a simple repaint and Nosecone didn't get a new noggin. Woulda been great if they added some car mode parts to make his vehicle mode like Cybertron Clocker's.
We never did see the Dead-End / Streetwise mold Retooled into Clocker didn't we? He was a combiner component correct?
How do you know that the pretooled drill wasn't always intended for Drillhorn and that Nosecone isn't just borrowing it?
We'll never know for sure, but what do know is that any plans for individual Technobots to go with the solo Scattershot definitely got scrapped.
