This seemingly has more in-common with the engineering of the legends figure that took stuff from Maketoys rather than the MP, like how it doesn't have a faux chest. Really the only thing it will probably have with the new MP is that it is Starscream and some general Starscream-like transformations.

 

I made a post literally 10 minutes ago asking about a good KO for Starscream to group with my ko Megatron and future Soundwave and then I saw this...If the price is right this may be exactly what I need.

Pretty satisfied with Maketoys Meteor but I’d probably get this when if they release a Skywarp variant

I was being half facetious  . Still, engineering - no - this borrows much more from the Newage Legends figure. But the design - the shapes, proportions and sculpt of bot mode - the curves of the legs, tapers and chamfers of the forearms, chest, crotch - it's almost a direct copy of TT's with a few tweaks made. You can see that clearly from the side-by-sides.

 

Look at Zeta, they're emboldened and about to drop MP scale Seekers after seeing that a simple rebranding allowed them to release a Unicron albeit after Hasbro's pre-orders were closed. I'm sure others took notice as well, case in point this "new" company with their version.

If this is from the Transform Element designer then he's got to be the ballsiest 3rd party MP designer ever. First directly competing against MP-44 and now MP-52? Sheesh. Though to be honest I wish he'd tried competing against MP-51 instead.

I don't think so. While this is definitely poking the bear a bit, Unicron was definitely a bit more of a line-rider because of the HasLab crowdfund, where this is just something being shown off at a somewhat inopportune time.

Definitely an unwise choice to show it off now if you ask me, but I don't think it'll end in a C&D.

 

I personally think it won't end in a C&D. Only way for that to happen with MP-52 coming out this month is if a substantial amount of pre-orders suddenly got cancelled, and the Masterpiece line has more than enough fans who will buy them over 3rd party for many reasons either due to liking official more, the borderline illegal nature of 3rd party, or just not knowing about 3rd party in general.

 

The word "Deformation" and the fact that the figure comes out of nowhere ready to be released could indicate Black Mamba (aka Transform Element aka Mechanical Alliance) They like to buy projects from independent designers and release them

They better be careful. Hasbro may ignore 3p/4p in general but they already proved Zeta that they don't like direct competitors   and MP52 is right around the corner

 

MP-52 also isn't trying to raise money to fund it's production.

Hasbro stopped caring about Zeta the moment they got the funding for Unicron, otherwise we wouldn't have seen a second run of Zeta's or the new repaint.
