Idk about that, DX9 has some pretty darn clean bots and those things are fun to transform. I think the designer just doesn’t put much refinement into it or has no idea how to get from point A to point B despite obviously using newage as a reference already.

Got mine (from @ShowZStore) today. Been comparing and contrasting with MP-52 for the past couple of hours. For me it's really close they both have their pros and cons over one another. Its gonna take me a while to decide who stays and who goes.

Yep, I still say I'd double-dip on a DS-01 in MP-52 colours, darker cockpit included.

Heh that is exactly how I feel about it, the darker deco and more 'premium' paint job on MP-52 is pretty much the only thing stopping me from declaring DS-01 the winner.

Just give it a few months - they'll come out with a DS-01 2.0 version with better paint and QC fixes. And then 6 months later a 3.0 version with a painted cockpit like Maketoys Meteor. And then Skywarp and Thundercracker in a year.

With how fast they put out Optimus repaint, I don't think we need to wait a year for trio seekers

I prefer a transparent or smokey cockpit, which is thankfully what we've got so far on both counts. Anyway if they do that I'm fine with it, I can buy the darker deco (provided it doesn't have a painted cockpit, I'd not like that) and move which ever of the two I still have on as that would likely be the perfect version for me. Win win.

No sanding or grease needed on mine. It was very tight but I was able to twist and push the nullrays in on my copy. YMMV.

This was a bit of cheeky speculation on my part, but it did make me think of how the later versions of Prime were released with frosted windows, while the 1.0 version (which I got) had clear. Honestly, it's nice to have options.

DX9 figures usually have more signifigant compromises than this does, especially the characters with alt modes that require more complexity. Also they've never made a seeker, so they can't be compared apples to apples.

This figure is going for a 360° idealized representation of Starscream. You're not gonna magically make him significantly less complex without adding some extra kibble somewhere or fudging the proportions, or else someone would have done it already.

I suppose, but their designer also made the UT movie figures, which are even harder to pull off than This starscream and yet are still smooth. The designer just didn’t think about simplifying anything for this guy or didn’t plan it out as well as he could have. I mean come on those tiny tabs that need to be pulled out and rotated couldn’t have just been attached to one of the other panels?

I do think transformation has become the least important part of masterpiece transformers generally speaking & I'd prefer more enjoyment out of that aspect as well. But it is what it is in the hobby currently.
