If this figure turns out to be as solid as he appears so far, I think Skywarp and Thundercracker are a given. And imagine the money you’ll save…geez…

Very true. It's definitely not a small chunk of change! I'm mostly waiting until I get this guy in hand to see how I feel about it. Though it would be nice to see what DS has planned for the other two, in terms of a precise color palette.

There’s a reasonable chance you’ll be able to pick up some kind of after market add-on.
User @jream designed, printed and sold shin thrusters and chest fans for the Maketoys Meteor mould and I expect he or someone else may be interested in doing so for this figure as well. The figure certainly seems popular enough.
I think it will depend on if the demand is there and if the chest squares are deep enough to comfortably house 3D printer parts.

    They actually are water slides.
The decals are matte and basically look like factory applied tampographs.

Here’s what they look like on various bots:

Love it - the finish is perfect, it poses fantastically well, and looks pretty much ideal. Height, weight and balance are all great, and for once I even like each of the three supplied faces.
The only negative is that I'm now tempted to replace my Skywarp and Thundercracker with any potential repaints this company now makes - same with my coneheads.

It’s pretty nice that the only QC issue we appear to have seen so far is just paint issues and not something like cracking ankles that affect stability.

Okay, but I want your honest assessment and an updated pic so I can see him amongst the rest.

I don’t own any other version of Starscream except MP11 Hasbro. So if my copy of DS001 is as good as I think it will be. I’m probably going to get the variant colors that will no doubt be coming. I hope they’re the right color scheme too. But I think if DS001 is as good as it looks I am worried because it may be worse as you’ve got the other boys. What if they don’t look as good behind him?

or could they look good. I don’t know. Haven’t seen a meteor comparison

I’ve owned the original MP3s, and grabbed the TW Coneheads … upgraded them all to the MP11s and swapped the MP3s to alt mode… eventually picked up the Meteor mold, sold the MP3s and moved the MP11s to my alt mode shelf… so here I am, replacing Starscream yet again :lol  So I’m less excited about replacing the full team so we’ll see what happens!

I will say Meteor was a HUGE improvement over the MP11 mold… but if you skipped Meteor, you absolutely need to get rid of the MP11s with either the TT KO or this guy…depending on your preference

I think you're right that people talk about transformations this way, but personally I don't quite identify with either group. For me, the most fun thing about a new toy is puzzling out the transformation.

So like your first group, I want to do it without instructions -- but I kinda don't want it to be intuitive or overly simple. When people praise a transformation like, say, MMC Kultur, I scratch my head, because that transformation is dull as hell. I want the conversion to be clever, surprising, and interesting.

And like your second group I care about build quality, structural integrity, clearance, etc. -- because I need to be able to experiment with moving pieces without worrying they'll break. But I don't want there to be a bunch of inelegant tiny moves that could have been smoothed out of the design and that you couldn't guess without the instructions or a video. I don't enjoy spending 20 minutes trying to line things up juuuuust right.

Andras' feet suck because they're challenging to fold out, but not in a way that's remotely interesting.

To bring it slightly back to the topic at hand: The only TE figure I've got, their Prime, has a transformation that's almost great, in that it's clever and interesting, but then getting everything to tab in at the end is just annoying as hell to the point where it kinda sours the whole thing. So these reports of Crimson Wings having clearance issues and such are really making me second-guess picking him up.

thanks to your awesome display I’m tempted to get the G1 reissues now too.

Great looking figure. I was a little surprised by how big he was. Can't believe how quickly Show.Z got it shipped out. Bummer was that the extra faces were missing. Hopefully Show.Z can get that taken care of for me.

This box is much nicer than it has any right to be. Pleasantly surprised. Too bad it has to have the goofy mis-transformation on the cover.
