I believe the vast majority of Transformers fans will agree that Megatron, Starscream and Soundwave are the Decepticons most popular figures.

Yet Bay struck out with all three in most peoples opinion.

Not to make this another typical bash thread but I like to understand what Bay's reasons were for slighting all of these characters. (not just Decepticons either)

Granted he's made truckloads of money doing things his way. But just what if he would've been a little more open minded with the true personalities and design of these characters?

 

Bay is an Ass that has never respected ANY Genre's history when he decides to "make/remake" his version...never has ...never will...

 

what the fuck is the point of all this ''what if'' threads. Coulda, woulda, shoulda. live with it. We got a live action movie and frankly, i think it's fucking awesome. Not everyone is 30. Not everyone grew up with G1. Not everyone gives a fuck about G1. If you hate, skip it. Yet you'll make it to the opening weekend.

what about Orci, Kurtzman and Kruger...don't you think they have anything to do with it. and what about the Execs and Hasbro what want to make a killer out of the toys. Did you think of that?

Bay rightfully takes the heat for some of the shit in ROTF. But the plot holes were there from the begining, and that was all the writers fault, because they didn't even want to do it in the begining so they did a half-ass job.

 

The thing is that Bay never has great villains in his films. Outside of Transformers can you even name the villain in a Bay film other than as a generic like Japanese pilot, drug dealer, or terrorist?

I honestly don't think he grasps or understands what a great villain can do for a film. Thus the Decepticons not even the big names mean anything to him. Out of all his interviews how many times has he even mentioned the Decepticons? While a director like Christopher Nolan mentioned the Joker almost more than he mentioned Batman.

You know guys, I find more realistic movie Megatron as a Decepticon leader than a silver guy with a bucket head and that transforms into a pistol (which BTWm given the size it would be unusable).

Let's take Soundwave: He's a satellite in this version, who can hijack military satellites, observe anything going on in Earth and coordinates the Decepticon troops, basically. Isn't that what a Communications Official does for his army? What were you expecting, a blue cassette that brain washed people to tell them anything he wanted? Not to say that the crew did a good desing of Soundwave: His head is still recognizable with red visor, faceplate and Decepticon insignia-like head. (In robot mode at least)

 

Wait... wasn't the Joker the ONLY reason most ppl like the movie in the first place?  

 

Why are people cussing and having such a mental meltdown? I doubt those poor reviews and Razzie awards were given by a bunch of 30plus G1 lovers. I can except a good live action remake of a cartoon with some changes if the story is good so a good way to sound of on a topic is to know all the facts and not dismiss us all a ranting crybabies especially since you become the thing you hate by assuming.

Bay is driving this car so there's no need to list the "key grips" faults in a movie that's clearly states "A Micheal Bay Film" in it's tittle.

Sounds like some people need to practice what they preach and skip threads they don't like, since we're all are entitled to our own opinions. Mind you this thread wasn't meant to be troll fodder yet some enjoy taking it there.

 

By people, you are referring to me, as I was the only one cussing. And since you do not know me personally, you would know that I don't cuss when I have "mental breakdowns". Its just how I speak. We are entitled to our opinions and I think its really stupid to keep discussing what the franchise should have been if Bay had not done it. For fucks sake lets just get through this trilogy first. Every franchise has its ups and Downs. Star wars, Indiana Jones, jurrasic park, Back to the future, Spiderman etc...

And generally speaking, the only people I've heard bitching of the movies are those who have watched the cartoons.

I've been satisfied thus far by Megatron, Starscream and Soundwave's depictions, the movies' flaws are in other areas, although I wish Starscream's betrayal in the first film was more pronounced than just fleeing from the jets that shot down Megatron.

 

Well if your 'bitching" about other people "bitching" then who's worse? Nobody's making us watch Bay's film the same as nobody's making you read this thread. But this is a transformers site made for discussion, so here we are.

So if calling the opinion of people who don't praise a movie who's latest sequel was even quoted as being lack luster by Shia Labeouf himself, "stupid" is all the input you have on this subject then I thank you for stopping by and I wish you a great day.

 

Make no mistake a lot of G1 episodes were terrible. But if the source matterial was that bad then they would have considered making a film in the first.

No one is begging for a tape deck but what's the point of getting Frank Welker to do Soundwave's voice if he's just going to sound like "Dr. Claw" instead?

 

Relax a little... Bay just kept the best for the last which will be TF3!!!!! We' ll finally have the Meg, Soundwave and Scream together plus Shockwave so lease stop complaining and enjoy instead!!!!

I'm ok with the Designs, but I wish they were a bit more violent, or at least demonstrate those traits.

 

i would have to say i only half agree with all of you.

Personaly i recognize the fact that that transformers doesnt just exist as G1 or movie. There are hundreds of incarnations of the series. enough that theres a universal code to catigorise Transformers as a whole.


so personaly i like the movie designs, and the G1 designs, and all the other hundreds that exist. Its transformers its meant to be different.

 

I agree with megatron & starscream being the most top 2 popular decepticon characters & toys.

I don't agree with soundwave being in the top 3 most popular decepticons characters & toys.

for the past 10 years thru 2000 thru 2010. soundwave wasn't a core character in Rid,AEC,Animated or the first 2 live action movies.
