    Hi guys,

I just recently acquired deathsaurus mib complete w/box in c8 condition for a really good price. The only drawback was the gold chrome was tarnished/rusted, some places worse than others. Anybody know what products or household products they use or have used to clean tarnished chrome without damaging the plastic or removing any gold paint. I don't have a pic atm but those who own Deathsaurus will know which parts I'm referring to.

    Any help would be appreciated.

By tarnish, do you mean, the color is flaking off, or faded?

it's like rust on metal, but its on the gold plastic chrome parts. Hope that makes it clearer. To be honest I'm not sure if it is gold plastic but I'm just trying to describe it to the best of my abilities.

Here is a shot I took of the tarnished chrome on the lion breast that forms the chest piece of deszaras. You can clearly see the tarnish, it looks like rust on metal.

^Yikes!  Looks quite severe.. Here's hoping that there are custom replacements out there..

Mine, thankfully doesn't suffer from gold plastic syndrome, as far as I am aware!

    Good luck, man! :thumb :

Cripes. Never seen that before. Looks quite like the problems with MP Megatron's feet actually.

Did the seller tell you about this?

I suspect you may need to replace those parts... or maybe use something like Alclad to re-chrome them?

The seller did say there was chrome tarnish/rust and it would be removable with some cleaning solution, although which cleaning solution is what eludes me at the moment. I just wanted to get some ideas if anyone else who had a similar problem with one of their transformers and how they cleaned it. And yes, it is practically the same as the tarnishing on mp megatrons feet, the difference being this one is gold coated plastic and that one I think isn't coated in anything since it's just a metal piece.

No idea but i'd be interested in seeing the answer. I own Deszaras and my lion brest is alittle faded

(Its hard to photograph with the Flash but its very minimal)

I hope you didn't pay a lot for that Deszaras, if you end up having to replace that part, its going to cost you a pretty penny.

That actually looks like oxidation, not tarnish. I am not sure what you could use on that that wont rub down to unpainted plastic. I am curious to know if that can be fixed though.

I have Deszaras, I think I bought him ten years ago. His Gold pieces are known to fade, but I never seen him with a rust or spots like that. There are cleaners out there that you can use, I would try wd30 first because that would not damage the pieces. To get extra parts for this guy will be hard especially the Breast Figures.

Hey chrisr291 your deszarus figure looks exactly like mine with the rust oxidation on the gold plastic areas. I spent 458usd shipped complete with instructions in c8 box a wk ago.

    @combaticon164. I will look into wd30 thanks

You cant fix this. once it happens, there is no reversing the process. I cant see any solvents working on this, if anything, it may make it worse. it may make it shinny for a bit, but it certainly isnt going to put any more chrome plating back on ol deathy. its just one of those things man, it happens.

Its still a very nice piece, gold paint, painted plastic or metal eventually fades. I have a TM Cheetor that doesnt suffer from flaking but from the gold fade.
