I just recently sold my LG-31 Fort Max on eBay. It was complete with all included parts and booklets, and now the buyer is claiming that the instructions are missing.

I never separate the booklets or sticker sheets from each other. NEVER. And I know it had to have had the instructions since I used the sticker key to apply three of the stickers to the figure.

Has anyone who has sold items on eBay ever dealt with a buyer who pulls the "it says complete but instructions are missing" scam before?

Also, can anyone post pics of the instruction sheet, comic and sticker sheet that came with FM?

Basically I just need to verify whether or not the comic and instructions were the same booklet or are different.

There is a pretty big scam of "small damage" or "small part missing" and then they ask for a partial discount to "compensate" for the "missing" part when there's nothing actually missing. .

Message them again and swear up and down you put them in the box, have them double check everything. If they ask for a discount, tell them you will only accept a full return of the entire thing, they'll most likely back down and never reply after that.

I always take pictures and video of what I'm selling ( from all angles), including packaging it. I then post the pics in the description, as well as "selling As Is. No Refunds, No Returns".
So if someone tries those scams with me, I have evidence to prove their claims as false.

Tell them that it was in the box, and you hope they didn't toss it with the box/newspapers/packing peanuts/etc.

That as is, no refund n no returns notice is useless. eBay will essentially negate all that through their protection anyways

I take at least 4 pictures as I'm packing up each item. All the items going in the box. The items Wrapped in bubble wrap. The wrapped items in the box and lastly the closed up box ready for shipment. Each picture has the address label in it.

This is what I do. Even if the item is sealed and never opened, I always mark the auction as used and never as NEW.

    Ebay:
Sealed items is not the issue or the topic of the op. We are talking about seller not issuing refunds to buyer. But eBay offers buyer protection regardless

Pretty much at this point just go ahead and tell him to return it he is that unhappy. The trick to dealing with ebay is when stuff like this happens deal with it quickly and move on. Most buyers are pretty cool people but there are some on ebay that can make it a sour experience.

Thanks for the tips. So far he hasn't replied to my last message. I also have a friend who is willing to give me his copy of the instructions, as he smells scammery as well. Next step is to call the buyer on his bluff by telling him that I will be able to send him the instructions.

I would go with telling them that you can send them replacement instructions, if you can. It will either call their bluff or be your cheapest solution.
Always tell them that you won't give them a partial refund, but you will accept a return. If you have to escalate it to an eBay case, it will help eBay side with you. If they really want to return it, you can't do anything about it and you have to pay for return shipping if they claim there was something wrong. As a last resort, you can offer them a partial refund in the amount of whatever return shipping would cost you. Either way, you are losing that money, but it saves you the hassle of reselling it.

I sell a lot of stuff on ebay. I list almost every item "in used condition with wear, please look at photos. Includes everything pictured only." That way if I miss something, my description is vague and they can't claim it wasn't as advertised.

I contacted the buyer letting him know that I will be able to send him a new set of instructions.

And with that, he has "mysteriously" gone quiet.

    Super scam.

Yup . I hate these kind of experiences. It happened once to me too. Sold as MISB , the buyer told me there were pieces missing , I told him to send it back ( all of it ) , and never heard from him again.

You should report it to PayPal so they at least have record that he's a scammer so when he tries to do this the next time, maybe he won't be able to get away with it as easily.

You can report bad buyers on eBay. It doesn't do much on its own, but if they get enough reports, they can't bid on items.
