Interesting, like others, my exposure to Blackhawks is limited to the JL cartoons and a couple of comics I collected when I was much younger. I am sure it could be made into a cool WWII era action movie. Spielberg's involvement does not get me excited like it once did. His stuff, in my opinion, has not been all that great since about 2005. All I am saying is that his involvement does not automatically mean a slam dunk. Could be a good non-superhero movie though. A cameo by WW would not be out of place either.

Equally good. You could even find out he served with them for a while - would explain his piloting skills.

My guess would be something much less offensive, but perhaps still humorous. Maybe something akin to Wong in doctor Strange. heroic, but still funny in an understated way.

Blackhawk is a perfect fit for steven. WW2, planes and they collect magic items and store them.

    WW2, planes and fantasy.

Well, the DCEU's Steve Trevor died in World War I rather than in World War II, which is when the Blackhawks are set. So he may have been a mentor to a younger man who became one of the Blackhawks.

Unless they explain that the origin of the Blackhawks goes back much further than WWII. If done well, it does not even need a tie-in to the existing DC universe...based on how well the DC movies have been doing, perhaps it would be better served with no tie-in at all.

Any excuse to punch Nazis is a good reason for a movie.

I thought Spielberg was done with tha—oh, wait, that's right, he'll just call them Russians instead. My bad. :p

Honestly, this'd be about the only comic book property I can think of that might make any sense in terms of the chances of Steven Spielberg of all people actually directing one. Also it'd be a big score for WB, who after twenty-plus years of leaning on Batcrutches and screwing over Superman at every turn desperately need to get their act together in terms of their DC movie properties and prove that Wonder Woman wasn't a fluke.

...actually, come to think of it, if this thing's a hit, I wouldn't mind seeing a period DC movie universe. Sure, the MCU hops in and out of decades, but seeing a genre mega-franchise set squarely in a specific past period of time rather than the present day would be kinda cool - you could easily make such movies relevant (world at war, unemployment, corruption, etc.) even if they aren't strictly contemporarily-set. Heck, taking him back to his late '30s Depression-era roots and power levels might be the only way left to save Superman at this point.

Blackhawks Writer Offers Update on Steven Spielberg's DC Movie

"We have a script that's very good and we all think it's very good," Koepp explained. "There were a lot of management changes at Warner Bros, so I think we've just been kind of waiting for that to settle down.and for them to decide what they want to do with their DC Universe. Obviously I hope he does it or if he doesn't direct it, I hope he produces it, someone great directs. Because it would be a great deal of fun. I'm very fond of the script and I hope it comes together. But again, that's one of those movies that's gonna need $200 million so, trying to get those whales off the beach is a big process."

The film is also planned to be a standalone film.
"As we were developing the script, we said "Hey, let's make one great movie. It's 1940, that's the way it is." And if in the future they decide they want to unite anybody, I'm sure time travel will not be a problem. Because comic books have a great way of figuring that stuff out. 'We need Wonder Woman to be there!' Fine. Well, then she can, because of the 'Prometheus Portal'. I'm like 'What's the Prometheus Portal.' 'You don't know about the Prometheus Portal?'"

If anyone other than Spielberg directs, I have a hard time imagining they could ever get anyone to give a shit about a Blackhawks movie. If Spielberg directs, maybe. But otherwise, it will bomb harder than the three GI Joe movies no one cared about (I almost typed "two" because I already forgot the Snake-Eyes movie even existed). And GI Joe still has a little mainstream recognition. Blackhawks never did.
