The post here inspired me to create a timeline for the Batman titles, these are my notes so far. I'll edit this post as more information is available. BATMAN TIMELINE 10 Years Ago - Bruce Wayne becomes Batman at age 25 (Batman: Year One) - Damian Wayne is born around this time - Batman is an Urban Legend for the next 5 years - Batman: The Long Halloween (Detective Comics #1 plays around with the Jokers history) - Dick Grayson becomes Robin at age 12 (Batman: Dark Victory) - Robin: Year One - Batman & Robin's adventures from Earth-One timeline - Barbara Gordon becomes Batgirl at 18 (Batgirl: Year One) **Robin, Starfire, Cyborg, and Speedy/Arsenal's time as The Teen Titans happened but it's hard to fit into the timeline with the Justice league being formed so late*** - Dick Grayson becomes Nightwing at 17 (Nightwing: Year One) - Jason Todd Robin arc (Batman #408) 5 Years Ago - Heroes begin appearing all over the world, including Africa, where 'The Kingdom', a short lived team of heroes, comes together, ends a revolution and frees Batwing's country shortly before disappearing. - Batman goes public - The Justice League is formed, Vic Stone becomes Cyborg (Justice League #1) **The original The Teen Titans is formed?** - Identity Crisis (other stories still part of the DCnU *article*) - Batman forms the Outsiders 3 Years Ago - Barbara Gordon becomes the Oracle (The Killing Joke) - The death of Jason Todd (A Death in the Family) - Enter Tim Drake (Batman: Year Three - Batman #436) - Tim Drake becomes Robin - Barbara Gordon forms the Birds of Prey (Birds of Prey #1) - Batman: Hush - Jason Todd becomes Red Hood (Batman: Under the Hood) - The Birds of Prey disbanded (Birds of Prey #127) 1 Year Ago - Damian Wayne becomes "Robin" (Batman and Son - Grant Morrison's Run) - Bruce Wayne "disappears" **it's unclear if Final Crisis still happened** - Dick & Damian become Batman & Robin, Tim becomes Red Robin - The Return of Bruce Wayne **this story is a trip, it says Wayne dies but also undoes the fact that it ever happened** - Bruce Wayne publicly forms Batman Incorporated - David Zavimbe joins Batman Inc. as Batwing (Batman Incorporated #5) - The Outsiders disband, some of them join Batman Inc. - Tim goes inactive as Red Robin TODAY - Bruce Wayne returns to Gotham as Batman and his son Damian as Robin - David Zavimbe is still active in Africa as Batwing - The UN forms the Justice League International for the first time. - Dick returns to being Nightwing - Barbara is able to walk and becomes Batgirl again - Black Canary re-forms the Birds of Prey - The rise of super-powered teenagers - Tim forms a new Teen Titans team as Red Robin - Jason Todd, Roy Harper and Koriand'r (Starfire) are running around as "Outlaws" **not sure when Justice League DARK goes active**
Eh hard, to say, I'd guess Knightfall did though because it was a much bigger storyline, and you'll have to acknowledge Bane at one point, especially with the new Dark Knight Rises movie. No Man's Land doesn't have the same things going for it.
So far most of everything that happened in the past year is still relevant along with all of Grant Morrison's run on Batman which leads up to the finale of Batman Inc. I'm still working on the older books to see where they may fit.
Good, I'd kind of annoyed if they retconned all the stuff that Morrison had done on the book for the past couple of years. Though, I do wonder if "Final Crisis" and "The Return of Bruce Wayne" happened. I also wonder if "The Long Halloween" and "Dark Victory" happened.
I'd guess that Final Crisis and ROBW happened, given that Dick was Batman for a year. Also, given how Batman wasn't rebooted, DC must be giving special preference for Morrison's stories and both FC and ROBW were written by him. They probably didn't happen the way they did exactly (given how a lot of the characters involved have been rebooted) but I'd imagine they happened the way Crisis has been treated post-Crisis in a title like Flash years ago, they pretty much stuck to certain chunks of the big events that happened (i.e. Barry Allen died as did a number of heroes, heroes fought Anti-Monitor in a final battle, but no mention of rebooted characters, i.e. Supergirl's death, heroes being from parallel worlds, multiple earths, etc)
Later today I'm going to better organize my timeline and right a list of books that 'should' still be in continuity with the new DCU. But the whole death of Batman thing is bothering me. All they say is that he was gone for a while, but not as to why outside of forming Batman Inc. If he did die it would have been about 2 years ago and according the DC timeline I've linked Superman also died about a year ago, soooo that seems kind'a funky. When I do form my timeline it will be off information given from interviews.
Thanks for this. I'm not picking up all the new Bat books but enough that this helps to put it all in perspective. -G
I think the events of Death in the Family (death of Jason Todd), Lonely Place for Dying (introduction of Tim Drake) and Under the Red Hood (return of Jason Todd) happened
