Since i did this for comics might as well make one comparing the movies. Although i like DC better Marvel blows DC away in the category. I mean all DC has are the Batman movies that are worth mentioning (Besides Batman and Robin that is of course the only bad Batman movie) The Superman movies are well 1 and 2 were decent but 3 and 4 are well HORRIBLE and Returns is decent but none of the Superman movies give justice besides the music. The only other DC Movies are Green Lantern which wasn't horrible but was just well... meh same with Jonah Hex. Note: I have not seen Catwoman and watchmen.

Marvel on the other hand has all there major characters besides Ant man in a movie.

Here are the Marvel movies i have a positive opinion on:

    Captain America (2011)
    Ironman
    The Avengers
    Incredible Hulk
    Thor
    Ironman 2
    X-Men
    X- Men 2
    X- Men 3
    X- Men Origins Wolverine
X- Men First Class was alright
    Fantastic Four 1 was passable
    Spider-man
The Amazing Spiderman turned out good (besides some annoying plot holes)

DC movies on the other hand...

    Batman
    Batman Returns
    Barman Forever
    Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
    Batman Begins
    The Dark Knight
    The Dark Knight Rises

...can only make Batman Movies. Batman may be may favorite superhero but he can't be the only movie franchise for DC if they want to come close to compete with Marvel in terms of movies

NOTE I AM ONLY COUNTING MOIVES WITH THEATRICAL RELEASES

Marvel. They've been more successful with a wider amount of characters. DC has Batman, had Superman.

I judge each movie on it's own merits.
You don't see many MGM vs Paramount or Disney VS Sony and so on.
No CBS vs NBC AMC vs History Channel HBO vs Showtime
Let each movie stand on it's own.

Right now Marvel has the advantage as it has direct creative control over it's movies.
DC has to go through their parent company Warner, and they like to make lame executive decisions.

Marvel has had some real successes in the past decade or so. In terms of overall success, I think I have to give it to them in that they have developed a much deeper bench. DC hasn't been able to really get anything to work other than Superman or Batman. But Marvel has an Ant-Man movie coming. That is crazy. And what's even crazier is that after Iron Man's surprise success, I can no longer write-off Ant-Man. If Marvel can have so much success with Iron Man, they might even be able to make Ant-Man into a blockbuster.

That said, I don't think Marvel's best movies are anywhere near as good as DC's best movies. So far, at least. They are great action romps, but they don't really manage the same emotional resonance, imo.

But it's not just studios. It's characters. Generally, we don't think of characters as belonging to one studio or other, so it's kind of a weird analogy.

But comparing characters, we do it all the time. Like a Bond movie versus a Bourne movie versus a Mission Impossible movie. Most people can instantly tell you which they like more or think is better. But other than Bond movies being put out by MGM, I have no idea what studios Bourne or MI come from.

Yeah, I was thinking maybe that, but then I thought maybe Universal. And I really have no guess with Bourne. In the end, I don't care. But with Marvel and DC, it's totally different: I can't help associating the characters with the publisher.

    Marvel. For now.

Things seem to be turning around for DC with ARROW and MAN OF STEEL.
