I hated that gimp suit beyond belief. Almost as much as I hated the soccer mom haircut. I also didn't like how Brubaker tried to write her like a Jim Thompson novel. Selina's Big Score is a pretty good story, but it didn't feel like Catwoman to me, and it ushered in what is probably my least favorite era in the character's entire history.

Now that you've told us what you don't like how about you suggest a Catwoman run you do like?

Give kaijuguy19 a suggestion to compare mine to. Maybe kaijuguy19 will like your suggestion more than the Brubaker/Cooke run.

Yeah, Cooke’s probably my favorite comic artist and his Selina is of my favorites.

That's cool. :)  Didn't know that her modern suit came from this series. I figured it first appeared in Batman Hush so that's interesting to hear.

I honestly don't remember if the Darwyn Cooke redesign first appeared in Catwoman vol. 3 #1 or if it was used a couple of months earlier in The Trail of the Catwoman backup stories Brubaker and Cooke did in Detective Comics (also included in the trade I recommended. :) )

According to the pneumatic internet tubes the first issue of Catwoman vol. 3 was released in January of 2002 and Batman #608 (Hush chapter 1) was released in December of 2002.

Catwoman wasn't appearing in other Batman comics outside her own series at the time, so I think Jim Lee choosing to illustrate Catwoman in the Darwyn Cooke costume went a long way toward legitimising the new costume and making that her default modern look.

She wore that costume all through the New 52 and Rebirth, right up until Joëlle Jones redesigned the suit for the current run starting in 2018.

For what it's worth I like the idea behind the Jones redesign, particularly how it's designed as two separates, so Selina can wear the costume without the sleeve/cowl portion.

But I think the Cooke design was so perfectly iconic I just can't move past it.
I think "Catwoman" - I see that suit.

I think of the suit the recent DC Essentials figure is wearing.

    The purple Jim Balent one.

She had a very prominent pair of . . . ears.

Even without the “ears” being quite so prominent, I like that costume. I bought a lot of comics during that era.

Even if it's not my personal favourite, I have a lot of respect for how definitive that costume was for that particular era.

It's really surprising how hard it took for DC artists to figure out an iconic look for Catwoman, with all the long skirts, capes, cat heads and flared collars along the way.

The TV show in 1966 pretty much got it right away, but the comics and cartoons kept trying different, outlandish ways to skin a cat.

Yeah, pretty amusing how long it took a version of the black catsuit to make its way into the comics whereas nowadays it's usually common in Dc or Marvel for stuff from the movies or shows to make their way rather quickly over to comics for brand synergy.

You think that because the poster presents all looks equally, and mixes comics with outside media. But the "1947" look is the iconic look she had for most of her existence from the Golden Age until the late '80s/early '90s, and the two alternate comics costumes during that period were used only a couple times before snapping back to her iconic look.

Very true, it is a little misrepresentative to depict all those looks as being equal.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold animated series made sure to change up Catwoman's look every time we saw her, and that serves as a strong reminder of how iconic many of those costumes are not.

Catwoman can be a fashionista with different costumes to wear, I don't really mind.

Selina should be wearing an all-black tacticool gear with the cat ears attached to balaclava.

The gray eighties look is what I remember the most.

    PREVIEW: Shazam! #12

That cover looks good! Shazam has the power!

But if I'm honest, I prefer the original design. Captain Marvel is a Captain, so he has a military-style uniform on.

Freddy Freeman has no right to complain about the Crocodile Men.

And only a fool would enter Gotham City looking for trouble.

He's a kid who bullets bounce off, he's super strong of and he can fly. Of course he thinks none of Batman's rogues gallery can hurt him.

I've never thought the hood looked good on Captain Marvel. Just saying.

And here I though Billy actually had a fairly decent rogues gallery for characters who aren't Batman or Spider-Man.
