While the idea stated later doesn't sound too bad, the fact that he mentioned Miller having "twisted imagination about what should happen" does not exactly inspire confidence in this. That and while JR JR is a great artist, his current style is really not that great a fit for Superman.

I agree, but DC's thinking here is maybe more about him being a good fit for Miller. But yeah, that "twisted imagination" comment is alarming.

What DC needs is a Kong Kenan + Guy Gardner team-up issue. Just for the lulz of it.

I just hope he doesn't go make Jimmy Olsen a drug addict or something. Speaking of Jimmy, just occurred to me, has he shown up at all during Rebirth? Seems weird that someone so prominent in DC lore is kinda missing.

Oh hey, I never thought to look for a DC Comics thread on here. Awesome!

Anyway, I went to a midnight launch for Dark Knights: Metal earlier tonight. Scott Snyder even gave us a call over the speakerphone to thank us and tell us to enjoy the book.

    It's pretty amazing, btw.

I've been hearing a lot of good things about it, looking forward to reading it later.

He was around in Superman and Action Comics. Mostly in the background.

Yeah, I'm going to be honest: this went from "not interested" to "will definitely pick this up now" having scrolled down to the Lady Blackhawk reveal.

Just finished reading, gotta say, this looks like it'll be very good. It really feels like Scott Snyder is channeling a lot of good Grant Morrison. Love how they're giving callbacks to a lot of DC characters through the ages.

Unfortunately I was spoiled regarding that, but the stuff that was going on inside the story made me plenty happy. Loved the opening mini story vs Mongul - felt like reading an old 70s-early 80s era DC comic.

I read the first issue and thought it was just okay. There are some cool ideas here and some stuff that really doesn't impress me as much. Part of it is that there's so much focus on Batman as the main character. Don't get me wrong, I like Batman, but he's a very easy character to Mary Sue and I feel that this story is moving in that direction.

Also, something that's bugging me a little: why is Hal here instead of Jessica and her far less awesome partner?

“Mystik U is about a sheltered show biz kid (Zatanna), a bitter rebel (Sebastian Faust, son of Felix), a split personality (Enchantress), a competitive premed student (new character Pia Morales), and an awkward prodigy (Sargon the Sorceror) all discovering that they have the capacity to perform real magic,” series artist Mike Norton explained in an interview with DC Comics. They’re enrolled at a university for the magically gifted, where the world’s most powerful practitioners of magic will mentor their fledgling talents…and try to discover which of them is fated to betray the others and become a powerful force of evil."

Writer Alisa Kwitnet described the bi-monthly prestige format series as “very much a story of freshman orientation for Zatanna and the others, but on magickal steroids.” And what good would telling the story of a group of young adults in a school for magic be without a proper bad guy? “There is definitely a villain, but there’s also an exploration of the villain’s journey,” Kwitnet promises. “One of the things I always loved about Harry Potter was the unfolding of the story of the young Tom Riddle and how he came to be Lord Voldemort. If I could ask J.K. Rowling to write a book for me, it would be the complete tale of Tom Riddle’s school days at Hogwarts.”

    Looks fascinating.
