David S. Goyer To Tackle Live-Action HELLSING For many American anime fans, after a likely introduction to the genre from series such as Dragon Ball Z, Bleach, Naruto and/or Sailor Moon, you stumble across the darker and more adult titles such as Hellsing. Hirano's 1997 manga series is ultra-violent and definitely not for the faint of heart. Probably best described as a mixture of Hellboy and Blade to unfamiliar genre enthusiasts, writer & director David S. Goyer (Man of Steel, Batman Begins, Godzilla) will be helming the independent adaptation which features a script from Asim Ahmad (rumored to be playing Michael Morbius in The Amazing Spider-Man sequel) who will also be portraying Alucard. Jake Sharp (All My Children) will be portraying Father Anderson, Daniel Bernhardt (Bloodsport 2, The Matrix Reloaded) will be portraying Walter and Swedish singer Ana Johnsson will be portraying Integra Hellsing. Expect some recognizable names from the action genre to cameo. Filming will begin in early 2013 in London. Ahmad, Sharp and Stefanie Levina are serving as co-producers on the feature. What can I say? Other than: Alexander Anderson - Amen - YouTube I always thought Tim Burton would have made a freaky-ass film version, though. Of course, HELLSING is as much action as it is Goth, so maybe Burton would not have been right... still, this is epic news.
I know none of these actors involved. I've never watched the original Hellsing but i'm sure this will miserably fail.
This is a bad idea. Just look at the cast and does anybody think this would work in live action? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7m9mZ-LflE
Goyer you're on the thinnest ice when it comes to Movie adaptions, anime. For your sake don't fuck it up.
I've heard great things about the anime, but I haven't seen it myself. Goyer is usually hit or miss with no in between. Sometimes you get a Batman Begins out of him, other times you get Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.
Even though this says live action, it's going to be EXTREMELY CGI heavy if they want to get this at all right. And Seras is going to have the largest damn bust you've ever seen.
Here's the thing: Alucard is not a superhero, nor strictly even a Vampire. He is a barely constrained force of nature that Integra likes to throw at actual vampires. People point at Superman as a Godmode Mary Sue character, well Alucard is all that and more with ZERO scruples: a sadist, a psycho......or in his own words, a monster. They hired a singer to play Integra? Really, that was the best they could do? Oh well, surprise me. Also, do you think they're going to keep all that Protestant v. Catholic stuff? And the most important question: who is playing Seras?
I will be perfectly honest: I'd love for this to turn out to be a live action adaption of Hellsing Ultimate Abridged by Team Four Star. The major slam on the Twilight Saga in the opening of the first episode included.
For anyone who hasn't seen Hellsing yet, go watch the Ultimate OVA's. As for the film, I only hope this won't fuck up like previous Anime-to-live action English remakes like DB Evolution and Guyver. As for the actors... Asim Ahmad - Looks nothing like Alucard Jake Sharp - Sorta but needs some work. Ana Johnsson - Doesn't look too bad but I've seen better. Daniel Bernhardt - Same as Jake Sharp Now the question remains: Who is gonna play Seras and which part of the story are they going to adapt? They certainly can't do the entire story in 1 movie. Heck, the OVA's are like movies themselves and they do a great job of telling the story without rushing everything.
That cast list... eh, Walter looks good. (assuming he was cast with the intent to portray old + young Walter) Not sold on, well, totally fucking against that guy who's gonna be Alucard. I mean, wow, way to not at all ever in any way match the character's look. "Fuck Mothering Vampire" "Bitches love cannons" "JESUS WANT'S A HUUUUGGG!!" "It's the fucking Nazis." Yeah sure yes please.
Looking at the actor's photos, I REALLY like the choices for Integra and Father Anderson, definitely not big on the writer being the star. While I think that guy would look GREAT for Morbius, he'd have to really pull something interesting out from within the script and attire to pull off Alucard though.
Um.. I really like this anime and I'm nervous it will be screwed up. As I have said a thoudand times, Hollywood needs to start making original material again and not remakes or comic/anime adaptions. Not all are bad but it has been done too much recently.
Daniel Bernhardt should be familiar name to those who saw him on the 1999 Tv-series Mortal Combat Conquest in the role of Siro.
Well, that's a relief. If anything, I've learned that this Asim Ahmad guy seems to think he's involved with a whole ton of shit in the movie industry when he's not, thus giving me a heads up about anything he's "involved" in.
