I really don't remember the original DS having everyone throwing firebombs everywhere.

Which bosses did you give up on?

I'll tell ya....'Ring of Binding' ftw. That plus a shameless willingness to beat my head against certain areas until I de-spawned the local populace. I mostly gave up on using effigies to restore Humanity and did 90% of the game hollowed. Did a great job of building up effigies until I decided to drop my 100% melee character with nonexistent dark resistance, into the Dark Chasm of Old to fight Darklurker.

I'm tragically over-leveled at this stage. Giant Lord and Vendrik went down on first attempts...almost reminded me of late game DSR. But then I veer from the main story back into the last of the DLC (Ivory King) and continue to get my ass handed to me.

I decided to finally get into this series, though I'm starting with Bloodborne since the atmosphere seems perfect for this time of year. I have to ask though if I'm doing something wrong: I've fought the Cleric Beast a few times now, and each time he kills me (though I have picked up a few tricks), and then I rush through the tedium of the villager enemies to get back to him, die again, repeat. Should I try to farm some of the villagers and use their Blood Echoes to level up (I already have four times)? Or am I going about this right and I just have to bash my head against the wall of Cleric Beast until it breaks?
I'm really loving the setting and atmosphere and everything, I just would kinda like to see some more of it at some point. :lol

There is a steep learning curve. That being said, since you have memorized the level and how to plow through, you will learn the boss moves. Since this is your first game, it takes repetition. Leveling up will help, and I don't know the MP action since it has been a real long time since I've played, but for the bosses, learn to fight w/o using the lock-on. It takes some getting used to but you will dodge more effectively and can get in position to backstab more effectively much more often.

I didn't see this before taking down the Cleric Beast earlier today (eighth time was the charm!), but you were absolutely right! Lock on was totally my enemy, which I think I figured by either late second or early third try. And while I'm not sure I got the boss's moves down 100% (I used the Old Hunter Bell to summon Father Gascoigne and he was used as a distraction), but I did enough to be able to work around them, which was a super rewarding moment. :D  A bit nervous for the next boss, especially since I'll refuse to use another NPC summon next time, but also excited!

Father Gascoigne? Yeah that was a bit sad... The cutscene started and I thought he was going to be helping me, but then he said something about how I'll become a beast eventually too and yeah... :lol

Heh, my girlfriend actually started playing Bloodborne again this weekend after not looking at it for months. She's currently fighting Father Gascan...
    Ouch.
She took a break from Dark Souls because there hasn't been much online interaction lately. That may change once I get us a Switch, as Dark Souls will be one of the six games we get first.

Just popped this in for a replay. No other game series keeps bringing me back like this one.

What happens if I kill the M'Lady guy at Firelink Shrine? Since I'm not using miracles, I'd just find great pleasure in killing him and the 2 other M'Lady dudes that are with him.

Just cleared out Sen's Fortress. I'm like 2 sheets to the wind. Not quite 3. Maybe only like 1.5.

Still, amazing to do while semi intoxicated.

    Atorias fuckin my shit up.

I know you're supposed to dodge left instead of right. And fuck a shield because it will do you no good.

Still tearing my ass up. I guess I'm just not as good as I used to be at this game....
