    Hi all,

If you fancy it then we had a great sit-down chat with DWJ recently, which you can hear here!

It's also available on Spotify or Apple/Google podcasts etc.

He was very generous with his time and with the details, giving loads of insight into the Skybound series and some really intriguing stories about what might have been...

    Enjoy!

Unpopular opinion, however I don't think the comic is very good.

Can't argue that it doesn't have its moments though.

Still, I'm reading it and I'll listen to the ep.

I do enjoy it and I think it's very well done.

A part of me is always going to be salty over how much acclaim this book is getting outside of the Transformers fandom vs. the total nothingburger and eye rolls James' run got from non-Transformers fans.

Still, DWJ is insanely talented too.

Very well done, glad you were able to get him. Arcee as an attack helicopter would have been badass, interesting hearing about the Jetfire alt mode conversation with Hasbro (in the end being way darker than him just being a corpse they use). Glad to hear he’s staying for 24 issues because the dudes been killing it with this comic, so good and can’t wait for #9. Curious to see what non-G1/OC pops up in the comics.

This is great news! I was concerned he would move on to different projects being such an in demand creator. You can tell this isn't just a paycheck, DWJ has passion for Transformers. He's building a great foundation for the series, one that Transformers can stand on for the next decade or more.

He's building a solid foundation for sure and certainly laying the groundwork for future writers and artists to expand on. Loved the early part of the interview where he said that really struggled to draw optimus prime as a kid and got quite upset. It's fair to say when he was on art duties that he nailed optimus prime.

Loved the interview, glad I listened to all of it.

The most interesting thing to me was the times he fought with Hasbro to do things a certain way (Optimus killing the deer) and times when he DIDN'T have to fight Hasbro (killing off Bumblebee and Optimus getting Megatron's arm).

Absolutely. Hasbro tried to make it less depressing and instead made it incredibly darker.

"I can't see the stars" is a line that just hits so hard.

um... It didn't break out sales-wise, but MTMTE was in the Buy Pile every single month of its existence and Jason Aaron, Kieron Gillan and a lot of other mainstream comics writers were tweeting about how much they loved it.

Yeahhhh, but the sales are what I'm talking about. Specifically interest from non- Transformers fans.

The word of mouth on the DWJ book is an entirely different animal and seems to have people open to giving the franchise a try. Not true of IDW, at least in my experience.

But it’s typical for the mainstream to overlook stuff that is high quality but considered niche. And TF comics are niche.

I think the current TF run was noticed by the mainstream because several factors all luckily fell into place at the same time. It could have easily been overlooked (again).

I guess my point is that why have any expectations on how the mainstream perceives anything that doesn’t have a large audience. We know it’s good, and that’s all that matters (imo).

Finished it today, podcast was a lot of fun as usual, & the interview had good info. I chuckled when he said the whole Rumble/Frenzy debate killed Frenzy ha ha.

Also interesting was Hasbro's input leading to a worse fate for Jetfire, & that a squirrel was better to squash than a deer.
