I saw the videos and looks like the show was based on mass effect.
Wow, you really just need to watch the whole season...
So much wrong with just about all you posted.
It's a reimagining, if you want the original, go watch the original.
Personally, I've decided I want neither. Although I'd probably prefer to watch the remaining 9 episodes of the new series over revisiting the original at this point.
I watched it all the odd thing is why were "Smith's" clothes so weird it's like she's wearing Star Trek the Next Generation clotes and everyone else is casual or suited up.
I watched the first season and I really enjoyed it.
I'm halfway through the series does it get better than just mediocre?
I just finished watching it. And you know what, I got no fucking clue.
The spacesuits and the robot certainly are heavily inspired by that game's designs. But frankly, much like Mass Effect's designs, I found the designs just... really generic.
2002 MOTU is a reimagining. 2012 Thundercats is a reimagining.
This show might as well be called some generic name because other than them being a family and there being a robot, it is nothing like Lost in Space. The (not very good) movie was more like Lost in Space than this is.
The first season in this case is more like a very expanded pilot to help establish the new changes to the old version.
By season 1’s ending, we have hit the classic situation. Yet the build up calls into question what is surely to be the status quo. There is no reason for John Robinson to not go down and put a bullet in Dr. Smith’s head.
What are you expecting out of the show?
Dr. not Smith kills this series too often, unlike the original, who was narcissistic but smypathetic and not quite all evil, this one comes off as a complete sociopath out for herself. The robot in the original was also far more articulate and could talk, so half the fun was the banter between it and other characters, especially Smith. The robot was the Spock of the series more or less. The original Dr.Smith was also so overconfident and egotistical, he was often funny to watch.
The new one is annoying and no where near as fun to watch.
but then the original had it's logic issues as well.
That doesn’t exactly inspire me to watch beyond the 1st episode
She's just a nut really.
That's what I got too from her actions. If she had a moustache she would be twirling it and laughing diabolically like Dick Dastardly, being villainous for evil's sake.
Thanks for that clip, reminded me why I loved the banter between those two.
Dr Smith and the Robot were enjoyable for the same reason many of us loved Quark and Odo on DS9 - one was an amoral swindler only out for himself and the other an unflinchable lawman, but they interacted in a really funny way and both knew there were lines they would not cross - and even respected each other, even if they would never admit that openly.
I liked the original Dr. Smith better because while his greed, cowardice, or other character flaws would get the group into trouble he would also get those pangs of guilt when it appeared something like his greed had put another character into real trouble. Then how do he overcome his cowardice and aversion to real effort into doing something that will set another character into saving the day. Dr. Smith seemed to have some affection for others and there was that part of Dr. Smith that wanted to be the hero even if he lacked the tools for being the good guy. Thus catch phrases like "Never fear, Smith is here".
New Smith just seems to lack all of that. Self preservation and no pangs of guilt to the point that new Smith doesn't even seem human.
I just finished watching this and the show is barely watchable.
Next season(if there is one) they should get rid of not Smith, replace her with the real Dr. Smith, and have him act like the original smith. Bill Mummy spent so much time with Harris back in the day I bet he could do a great version of the character in his sleep.
The sad part is once again Hollywood tried to go dark, went to far and misunderstood why people liked the characters in the first place.
The robot not talking is like the Hulk over at Marvel, he went through 3 movies barely saving a word, and when they finally let him talk and act like the classic comic version, everyone loves him and he becomes the breakout character of the movie.
Stop trying to reinvent the wheel, there was a reason it worked in the first place. If you change something too much it no longer works.
I enjoyed this clip more than the new show.
Also both Bill Mummy or John Larroquette would have been better choices or do a more classic Smith
I was a fan of the original as a kid. The new one was...ok. Binged it all in a couple days. At certain times things seemed to drag on forever and go nowhere, it could use some tightening up to get the story rolling. Less talk about feelings and drawn out discussions about nothing, more action.
I'd watch season 2.
While I liked seeing Mumy's cameo as the real smith in the new one my mental image of him is that he's too *nice* to play a nasty character. Good old Lenier...
