Here's my cost effective paint booth for spraying. Just a box, a little rectangle of packing foam, toothpicks to hold pieces up, and a little bit of bailing wire to suspend more complex parts. If I can do it, you can too.
A trick with spray paint is to stay at least 6 inches back and wait 5 seconds between each pass. It's tempting to just get up close and blast away, but that makes it uneven and take forever to dry (and will seep under your tape offs).
I'd recommend trying RIT dye if paint isn't your friend. I've found grey plastic to be one of the best when it comes to catching the dye well.
id considered that, but i dont know how well yellow dye will take to grey plastic. i could never find a solid answer to that
I don't have any spare Megatron figures to really test on but here's a rough idea of what yellow and yellow mixed with a bit of orange looks like on light grey. This was maybe 20 seconds of having it submerged. Sorry KraegorStark, not trying to hijack your thread. It's impressive how well the yellow paint turned out.
thank you for that! dying will definitely be what i try, thanks a lot, and thanks @KraegorStark for doing this custom because its one ive been thinking about for awhile
As a word of advice, at least from my personal experience, try to take the figure apart as much as you possibly can. Leaving parts attached loosens the joints but for some reason taking things apart and re-attaching after keeps the joints how they were.
