Question: Does anyone else's missiles look like it has some dried clear solution (like Super glue?) at the tip? Wondering if that's a manufacturing defect or just me.

I have to say, while I think he's a solid, fun basic, I don't understand why people are going so nuts about him. I like the variety of him being an old American car (and I think it makes a lot of sense in GF's storyline) but I think American cars like that are pretty ugly really, and he's lacking lateral elbow movement, which sucks to be honest and would have been easy to fix. His neck movement restriction is a but clumsy, and the missile launchers don't exactly integrate into the alt mode fantastically well. None of these are big, toy ruining problems, but they're the sort of thing I'd expect the BESTEST DELUXE EVER!!! not to have.

Like I said, I think he's a solid, fun toy and certainly worth buying. But I'm not sure why people are more excited about him than, say, Autovolt/Crosswise, who kicks his ass on every level.

Crosswise is a shellbot that takes 15 minutes to put back into car mode. I'd rather try and reassemble a hard-boiled egg. His arms are spindly. He looks like a human with car kibble glued onto his arms and back. I prefer Downshift, very much more compared to the shellcar asthetic. That's why Alternators do not equal mandatory love for me either.

Don't get me wrong, Crosswise is good. I'm just glad he's the only shellbot in the line. I have to commend Hasbro and Takara on the variety of styles in this latest toyline, and using a classic American auto style? Genius.

"Oh noes, no lateral elbow movement!!!11" :lol

While Downshift shouldn't be known as the "Best Deluxe Ever" (that award goes to Cybertron Defense Hotshot IMO), it is one of the better designed bots from Hasbro, and they deserve a pat on the back for making Downshift and Armorhide cool. Taking the time to hide the force chip slot shows that they are looking at details for once, also like the fact that not much of bot can be seen in the alt mode. I personally would like to see a repaint or a kitbash (perhaps my own if I find another one) to look more like the car from Grand Theft Auto (I forgot the name).

So basically, what I'm trying to say is, "Best Deluxe ever" ? no, but it's a damn cool toy.

I sit corrected. At least Thunderblast is not throw-across-the-room difficult to put back into alt mode.

I think the reason Downshift gets so much love is that he is the closest we've had to a G1 Redux to this point. Detailed alt mode, fun and easy transformation, and robot that uses the car parts in a G1 style ( opposed to kibble like RID ). G1 was popular for a reason. Downshift hits all those marks and improves on them with more articulation and sturdiness.

Maybe you should try not sellotaping your fingers together first.

But even aside from Crosswise, I think Red Alert is a better toy than Downshift too. And probably the non-CD Hotshot, Noizemaze and Landmine as well, even though two of those aren't particularily realistic. Like I say, he's a decent toy. I just really don’t get the adulation in the slightest.

So how rare is this guy, cause lots of people are charging more than the usual 10 bucks for him on Ebay. We're talking double digit prices here.

I want to see repaints of him (or photoshops in both modes please too) in:

    -- General Lee

-- Cherry Red with flames on the side (ala the head of MEGAS)

    -- Purple & Black (as a con)
