Pardon my ignorance, but what's the deal with the Gundam pencil? Will any mechanical pencil do, or does it have to be the Gundam one?

Now were talking. Panel lining marker, touch-up paint, and good set of eyes, are keys for minor custom detailing. Everybody can and should do it. The tools are even cheap to buy. You brought true colors out of your Magnus. Splendid work.

The Gundam pencil that I have (ordered from Amazon btw) uses the smallest size lead (.3mm) It produces a finer line and enables you to go over tiny details with little smudging/mess and is specifically marketed for panel lining. Everyday mechanical pencils, like from an office supply store, are usually (.5mm or .7mm) You can can panel line with whatever you like or have on hand, the difference is mainly in the precision and being able to achieve the look you desire.

So, no, it doesn't have to be a specialized pencil, but it just so happens that it's my tool of choice.

    Thanks

This is fantastic!!! I know someone did something about a tab on his legs to keep them from breaking. Anyone know what part you cut? Keep up the work!

Wow. Who knew some panel lines would make Magnus look so... Premium. I'm going to consider doing this to mine. Makes everything pop.
Just one question: Never used Gundam pencils or any pencil on TF figures. How permanent is it? Will it rub off?

Sorry for the necrobump. I just thought I would post some comparison pics versus the Takara Legends LG-14 Ultra Magnus with Alpha Trion.

Got my takara Magnus last week. Great figure and much nicer details than the hasbro release (aside from some odd plastic color choices). But your CW Magnus looks even better than the takara version in your comparison pics! Nice work. Do you plan on pimping the takara fig too?

Thanks. I plan on leaving the Takara one untouched and in storage in case I ever decide to part with it in the future. Hasbro Magnus is currently on display with the rest of my IDW crew.

    Haha... much appreciated

FYI...Gundam fine tip markers, and some Tamiya/ Gundam paint markers are your friends. :D

Daaaaaaaammmnnn! Beautiful work! Panel lining is great, and the addition of yellow to parts really really adds to the detail. Simply amazing. Add this work to Seali-me's mods and you've got an ultimate creation!

What did you use for the yellowish parts?
