Yup, this thread finally came back around. This is it, this is my Magnum Opus. The best thing I've ever made. I can't even hear any critique over all the bells and whistles I threw on this project. Okay so there are a few things to actually hit on with this MONSTER of a build: - Most figures have a Silver Chrome basecoat, follow by a combination of Sea Green&Sea Blue Glass-staining Spraypaints to get a very swirled blue/green sea-like color rather than just teal. Nautilus&SSeawing instead have a gold basecoat with sea green and matte black to get a more coral seashell feeling. - This same idea was used on the Chrome Trident, because there's actually a very light misting of sea blue glass spraypaint that is almost unnoticable, but gives it a very strange shine as if it's more reflective. - These all make use of a BAD varnish as a final topcoat over a good varnish. Why's it bad and why'd I use it anyways? It creates little bubble droplets on the figure...normally a bad thing, but on the Seacons it's a very nice effect. - No extra parts, just partsforming. I don't know why that was a goal, but there it was. The feet come from Seawing's wings, the hands are Nautilator' lobster legs, and the chrome trident comes from Overbite/Seawing/Skalor' four chrome parts combining together. S E A C O N S Also tried to fix a glaring Color problem with the team: Overbite sticks out like a sore thumb. So I added a sprinkle of purple to MOST of the cast, made Overbite more pink than purple and more of a match with Snaptrap. Which reminds me...All six can be now divided into groups of 2 by their main robot colors: But more importantly: they can ALL become guns for Piranacon now by using Nautilator's gun! But MOST importantly... P I R A N A C O N (post 1of2)
Snaptrap: This was the most straight-forward swapover strangely. A beast wars iguana head, and an entirely newly made shell built from silverbolt wings+cannons/animated bulkhead/BWTM Scavenger body. The entire assemble attaches in the middle via a 5mm peg...which I actually setup backwards, so Snaptrap sadly does not have a robot mode gigantic shield. The shell also stores the Combiner Head, which splits apart to fit around the original combiner neck joint. This kept Piranacon's head the right width with fins without damaging the torso's look at all. The shell attaches to the combiner chest via Constructibots soft ball joints, making it fairly safe to add/remove without too much fear of stressing any joint. It should be noted that the original combiner chest was made blue/green so that it could seem like beast mode back legs, how well that came out is up to the viewer. Overbite: The first one. Just built out of an Alpha Bravo with a Firefly headswap. Some DotM Fallen toes as armguards, scratch built beast feet from TM2 Tigahawk wings, a pair of rifles decorated with Fallen toes and TM2 Cybershark knees(shark2shark), and a chrome fin to top it all off. Skalor: Rippersnapper with a Sharkticon face...I mean...What more can I say? Color liberties were definitely taken to make him blend in more with the others, but the chrome cannons do make him seem lighter than the others(as he should anyways). Tentakill: This was a pain because I wanted to built the four guns from scratch...The original idea was four pistols, THEN two pistols and two rifles, then four entirely different guns...Honestly it was ridiclous. The two handguns I ended up with came from Rippersnapper and Armada Cyclonus, and they work well with the robot arms serving as the last 2/6 tentacles. Nautilator: This was obvious now, but I wasn't sure how to pull this off when I started. Originally I was going to use swindle probably...Glad I waited. The giant underbelly turret was made to match the G1 toy's design and ended up allowing the figure to use the hands as lobster legs WITHOUT grinding in new pegholes. Seawing: You've seen me turn Jets and Pterodactyls into Manta Rays...Well...Here's a Car that's now a manta ray. Anything is a manta ray if you're brave enough. This things wings becoming the combiner feet is...honestly the only reason those combiner feet were chosen at all. I knew I wanted the feet to come from SOMEWHERE on one of the beast modes, and this was the only place I could think of. The tail cannon was added at the last minute, but it does make a huge difference overall. Sidenote : Seawing is the gun shown in the pictures, but he actually makes the WORST gun because he sticks out too far back for Piranacon to hold upright and balance out. Still made it work though. (Post 2of2) And with this I am not on...an emergency hiatus while I'm homeless. Happy thoughts.
Why in god's name is tentikill a jet. And thus your no-crit title is gone. But otherwise it's reeeeaaaal gooood.
This looks awesome, man! You could start a poll in here if people prefer yours over the upcoming official ones. For most of the modes I definitely prefer yours. Alone for the colors. I just fricking LOVE the colors. First thought you used actual colorshiftig paints. This is how HasTak's new official Seacons should be painted. And you even used the first version of the mold they used for their Snaptrap. I think the only thing that would improve it would be PotP Hun-Gurrr's hind legs to give Snaptrap actual front feet. As of speaking (I'm just curious) wouldn't it have been easier to use PotP Hun-Gurrr instead of CW Silverbolt? Just turn him upside down in beast mode so Abominus' pink torso front could be used to attach all the shell parts of Snaptrap and no parts forming required for torso mode. And could you post which paints (brands) you used, please? I'm very intrigued. Tentakil is a SQUID. He only used a jet to mimic the silhouette of it. You could as well ask why Seawing is a car. If it was meant sarcastic, please use emojis
Same here, I found it very inspired. Love this build, I can only imagine the amount of work that went into this, let alone the planning.
Nice idea but I don't think that this would make things/toys better. Hasbro has their restrictions and I bet their are enough designers at Hasbro who already despair at those because they can't realize the full potential of their ideas and designs. That's pretty frustrating. So you'd have more resources but are not allowed to do what you want. So I prefer to be a regular customizer to be able to create whatever I want (in my limitations).
I had a LOT of ideas I had to scrap from this. Originally the chest shield would have mounted onto the arm via---Hold up. Original the beast mode front hands would have been Constructibot joints attached to 5mm pegs that slide behind the robot hands to create toes. These would have plugged into the sides of the arm to hang the chest shield there and in combined mode would have attached to the tips of the cannons to add more girth to the barrel ends. It would have, absolutely. If I hadn't already gotten Snaptrap to the point shown in the previous thread...before Hun-Gurrr was even announced. I have literally been working on this project since Menasor came out, albeit it was only Overbite&Snaptrap back then. All the hand-done details are airbrush paints because of how smooth&thin they are. Mostly wicked colors, but also a few Creatix as well. It should be noted that I almost always hand-mix my paints to get exactly the right color. The spraypaint basecoats are all krylon, except for the chrome basecoats which are Rust-o-leum. Rust-o-leum also makes the awful bubbly topcoat varnish(which should never be used). Yeah the fingers/Lobster legs would absolutely not be possible if this was Hasbro. The feet being Seawing's wings wouldn't be allowed, the gigantic lobster cannon would have to go, and there'd be an insistence that the head feet inside Snaptrap's torso without being removed, etc. The color palette would also be an issue. While I do prefer this sea-washed look, it's not very "G1-esque", which is what Hasbro tends to go for.
