Just a simple repaint of CW Hound with a replacement head from Steam Shield's Bot Foundry on shapeways.com to get a CW Jallguar to go along with the rest of team Liokaiser. I ordered the head in "Black Hi-Def Acrylate" and was very pleased with the material, smooth and tough. Since steamshield designed the head in two pieces it was quite easy to paint. I know vehicle mode needs a bit more detailed paint as well as his signature missile rack! Along with Botcon 2009 Leozack, I'll just display these guys in robot mode in my display, especially since I have the 3rd party Ares not-Liokaiser in combined mode. If you're curious about how he looks as a limb (still working on color matching Liokaiser's head to his body) Thanks for checking out my customs! Happy New Year!
Id like this even more if it was from dragstrip, but its still awesome. You should try modding him attach to Dezarus's back.
Since Jallguar was originally a racing dune buggy, neither CW Hound/Swindle or Mirage/Dragstrip works 100%. Ideally, Hasbro will make a TR Legends Beachcomber that has a Jallguar remold that can connect with CW Liokaiser! Thanks! I'm ok with the Botcon one standing in because then at least I have a use for him. Also, I have the 3rd party Liokaiser from TFC displayed in combined mode so these will just be displayed in individual robot modes. Gotta get them some animal partners either from shapeways or arms micron figures. I do plan on making a Deathcobra as backup member when I get another CW Blades as steamshield also has a new head for him on shapeways.
TR Beachcomber could also make an alright blacker. Glad to hear that you are making deathcobra, probably one of the most forgot breastforce members
Even though I used a thin layer of paint on the connector there is a little paint wear on the sides of the peg, but the good news is it's nothing that can be seen in individual robot mode, limb mode or vehicle mode.
I've used Rit dye before on a couple of customs a few years ago, when it works it's awesome! But I think i've read that they have since changed their formula and now it doesn't work as well on plastics, so I've been hesitant to try it again. I dyed Igear's Duneraker (Beachcomber) a darker blue and it worked great for me but the next guy who tried it said he ended up melting his figure I feel that the Swindle/Hound figure is closer to the original dune buggy mode of Jallguar and at the time I got him was still cheap on Amazon (now not so much). The Rook figure is a good toy and would fit in well with the other military vehicles that make up Liokaiser too. For his rocket launcher, it's too bad they never made a HFG that had four rockets on one hand, that would have been ideal. If no one makes a missile rack on shapeways then I'll scratchbuild one myself.
Cool. I've had luck with a basecoat of testors flat black, but these ports seem to be very hard plastic and just don't take paint for me. What brand of paint did you use by the way?
I used Tamiya Acrylic Semi Gloss Black (X-18), one of my favorite paints, easy and smooth to apply, good coverage and fast dry time.
I was considering doing the same with what you've done here. Seeing an actual attempt I'm further convinced in going through.
Awesome work! I agree with you on the Hound/Swindle mold being the best option for him. Looks great. =)
Jaruga is probably the odd one out every combiner team has. "Look we're hi tech military vehicles" "Oh and I strapped some of my missiles to this race buggy, so he is too!"
I think this is the source of my quirk about not mixing the civilian looking vehicles with the military themed ones on the same combiner. I just feel like they shouldn't be hanging out together or something. =)
Like silverbolt with fighter jets, a truck with race cars, a space ship with military vehicle, a pterodactyl on a dinoforce team, and giant bike on a rescue team and a drill tank on a techno team. And 3/6 of Landcross
