I previously posted this very same custom Grimlock but he was clean. Since then I've added battle damage and some textured mud effects and oil leak details. I was going after a battle-hard Grimlock like just stepped out of the trenches of battle.

Check out a video review HERE for bot mode and a video review HERE for dinobot mode.

HOLY MOLY THATS AN AMAZING PAINTJOB I ABSOLUTELY LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS

I’m honestly still baffled how people are able to pull off such amazing detail with all these edgework, slight weathering effects and even cell shading with each little detail individually standing out in its own right rather than being super eyesore, I honestly cant fathom how difficult it must be paiting those edges so straight and smooth onto the figure without the paintbrush slipping off.

I seriously need to know how your methods for painting figures like this because I can’t wait to attempt this with my own figures, it’s honestly THAT good

That's sweet. I am usually so pro-toy looks on my MPs, but I never got Grimlock because I wanted a more toon color - no chromes, just yellows. So I've always liked Grimlocks like this one, but this is a lot more than just a simple color swap. It's got a lot of really great paint apps on it and it's really impressive, just for the effort. Hell, the Sword looks really great.

I can honestly say that I have held Zac's customs in hand and his work is spot on and durable.

Btw,Zac you are the guy who inspired me to try my hand at this hobby with your amazing work. You still continue to inspire me with your attention to details and flat style paint jobs. Awesome piece, man.

Thanks Sean, that's really great and it's always good to see your customs as well. I hope you can do more man.

Thank you, glad you appreciated the video. This is actually my second favorite custom I've done to date.

Very durable. I painted him using modeling paints and let them cure for well over a month. That makes a huge difference for handling and transformation when it comes to customs. Especially for transformation. That add a lot of sanding and refining too.

Shoot me a PM man, I'd be glad to send you a write up.

I had a bunch but lost them. I do have the video though of dino mode you can see via the added link in the first post.[/QUOTE]

Thanks for the feedback. I've always though of Grimlock as a battle-ridden commander and wanted him to look the part. I also appreciate unpainted figures too though so I can understand your thought on those.

One final thing - The forced cel shading on the shiny bits on the legs, as well as the sword, are absolutely gorgeous! Do you have a lot of practice with that paint style?

Thank you, I have done a few cel-shaded figures but not that many to actually own the style. These are mine:

Lol, yes I've done quite a few Grimlock customs over the years. This MP is actually like number 6 or 7 I think. I did a G2 version as well.
