Current WIP: TF/Zoid Reshelling Fun/Nightmare. So here's the custom I've been working on lately. It's not Headstrong. this is my first attempt at any really serious heavy mods - I've done some resculpting in the past, but this is my first attempt to resculpt, rearticulate, and basically reshell a toy from scratch. It's going... so-so. I'm going to have to find a way to reinforce the "elbow" and "knee" joints - they don't want to support their own weight. I'm hoping that once I paint and clearcoat everything, those parts will thicken enough to hold together better. (In case you're wondering, that's Animated Snarl heavily modded with parts from a Zoids Metal Rhimos. If this works, I have a few other Zoid/TF reshelling-type projects in the works, most of which will represent characters from roughly the same era of the TF line. That's all I'm saying as to this guy's identity.)
Thats what i kindaa want to do for my Beast Wars Animated Rhinox V1 or V2. its lookin really great soo far
It is excellent! Being a big Chogokin fan, that's what it reminds me of, in all the right ways. Looks like he could wind up being Slag with a few more additions.
Wow Tk, we really think alike. I was thinking that Ani Snarl would be a great ani. Rhinox too and looking at this guy just proves the idea. Anyway, this is a great custom. I love it. You made the reshell look so easy. Everything just seems to fit perfect. Where did those great hands come from though?
You give me waaaaay too much credit, my man. He's still really floppy - I've got to figure out a way to tighten the elbows/knees up somehow - I'm thinking maybe screwing the joint together and using rubber washers as bushings. We'll see. The hands are actually Snarl's. I routed out a hole in the Zoid's feet, drilled a small hole, and put a screw inside the hole. The hands have a swivel joint that I cut open into a "claw" that pegs into the hole and bites down on the screw to keep it in there. No rotation, but they do look pretty badass! The next thing I've got to figure out is mounting the beast head, then it's a matter of cutting up the rhino shell and strategically attaching it to give a more robotic look to the entire thing. If it works, I've got a wolf and a bear definitely lined up for the treatment, as well as another dinosaur.
Thats actually really neat! I am making my own set of TFA dinos and I am "reformating" slag, snarl and sludge custom crafted heads because I simply cant use the same one!
