It looks like a fun movie. Will Ferrell is the voice of the Man with the Yellow Hat, Frank Welker is the "voice" of George, and it features a full soundtrack of original songs by Jack Johnson. http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/curious_george/ Being a huge Jack Johnson fan, I must say I approve of the soundtrack (it's essentially a new album from Jack Johnson). I've been listening to it nonstop for the past week now. Here's the Amazon Link which sums it up best - it's a great album for both adults and kids.
I have to admit. I originally thought this was going to be some hack remake, but they really kept it true to the books and the old shorts.
the video didn't work, but cool! i loved curious george when i was about 6. as well as harrassing girls. illegally.
The animation is weird, but it looks fairly faithful to the original books. I'm glad they didn't cop out and give The Man in the Yellow Hat a name!
When I saw the first treaser poster I was having bad "Garfield" flashbacks. To see that they used 2-D animation is great. I wasn't really interested in seeing it as I was thinkign it wouldn't live up to the old books.
I had been dreading seeing actually previews of this movie for the longest time because I thought that they would take a live action route. I was thrilled to see that they kept it 2D animation. Will Ferrel would not have looked right as the man in the yellow hat.
I had absolutely no idea they were making this until about 2 weeks ago when I saw a bus go by with the ad on the side. Man, I loved Curious George.
I too remember reading and watching the Curious George books and films, and I was worried that it would be some CGI live-action deal. Will Ferrell sort of seems like an odd choice, as if the studio wanted to attract the Old Schoo/Weatherman college crowd. The animation looks pretty nice, from the few commercials I saw. Too bad George looks a little diffrerent, almost more like a human boy with his eyes and hair like that.
Same here. I'd seen an uptick in the amount of Curious George merch at various stores in the last month or so and was like WTF?, figured it was just getting some mysterious push/resurgence in popularity as old properties sometimes do. Then a billboard advertising the movie went up a block away, visible from my bedroom window and I realized what was going on. I have fond memories of ol' George, too. I'll probably check it out at some point, using my nieces as an excuse to do so.
It does look good. I like that Dick Van Dyke is doing a voice in it. Maybe not a big role though since they don't mention him anywhere other than in the trailer at the theater. At least that's the only place I've seen his name. I thought Will Ferrell was an odd choice too simply because I'm not sure if i ever saw any of the shorts or if it's the impression I got from having the books read to me as a little kid, but The man in the yellow hat always cvame across to me as deeper than Ferrell's. Actually, I kinda wish they'd gotten Dick Van Dyke to do his voice. Oh well. I'm sure it'll still be good.
Looking foward too it. Always liked the books. It's gonna be funny hearing Will complain about a monkey, while his character has that big yellow hat.
Anyone else have a chance to check out the Jack Johnson album? I love his music, it always cheers me up.
