Something struck me on my commute to work while re-reading LL 12... the way Star Saber is drawn...

Shares a lot of commonalities with this guy here....

Specifically the chest area and the upwards should wings.

I mean am I taking crazy pills, or could this have been a subtle hint for a possible re-use of the Optimal Optimus mold? It wouldn't be too difficult, new feet, slightly smaller hands, new head remolded shoulders and it would be a close approximation of what we saw in LL12.

For his ship alt mode, well....

But with the arms positioned backwards? Possibly with a sword hilt accessory that can plug into the cockpit similar to the G1 figure to help make it look a little sleeker?

It's probably just me grasping at straws and being silly. But Hasbro do love reusing molds, and stranger things have happened.

    Thoughts?

If TR Alpha Trion's beast-mode can be reworked into a Jet then I can definitely see the possibility of StarSaber being a retool of Optimal Optimus.

Interesting! We've seen more radical reuses from the Prime Wars stuff, right?
How does it marry up with the actual G1 toy transformation sequence?
Even if you have gone mad, I've enjoyed reading it! I'm a sucker for a 'what could have been'.

That is what I was thinking, a bit of radical remolding can work wonders.

To be fair I am a crackpot ;)

The G1 figure transforms in much the same way the MP one does, with the V-jet inserted into the bigger ship part. But I doubt if I am barking up the right tree it'll be similar in that regard.

I do love a good 'what if' myself.

Perhaps, but I'm willing to believe it, considering Hasbro does the kind of remolding/shared molding/whatever nowadays that turns CW Ultra Magnus into TR Powermaster Prime, Alpha Trion into Broadside, or Scourge into Highbrow into Windblade, Making one vaguely jet-shaped thing out of a different vaguely jet-shaped thing (and munky) with a basically similar layout is not a big deal at all

Thats my thinking. If you had told me in 2015 we'd get a Scourge, Windblade and Highbrow from the same engineering and they would all be very different in appearance I'd have been very skeptical.

I would say a remold from POTP Primal perhaps isn't the CHUG Star Saber fans want, but it could be the one we get.

It could definitely work and there's that smaller robot it comes with that could be his inner form

This is exactly what I was thinking as I read the OP. Hasbro's gotten really good and clever at mold-sharing/retooling lately (say what you will about their obvious budget cuts but it's forcing everyone to get way more clever and inventive), and if they could turn Magnus into Prime/Ginrai and Blurr into Brainstorm, I think Primal could make a really good stylized Star Saber. G1 he ain't, but that's what the MP is for.

Good eye - that might have indeed been a plan at one point. I don't think it's going to happen now, though.

Why not try something a little different?

Couldn't be worse that Energon Wingblade's alt mode.

I actually love that fugly brick though.

@MyTea Boc I think you may be right. There certainly has been precedent for something like this, and there are some notable similarities between that Star Saber and the overall configuration of Optimal Optimus.

It will be interesting to see what happens!

Maybe not, but he could crop up in the (even if it is meant to be gimmick free) WFC line or a box set.

I would love that, personally. But I think we would have heard about box sets by now (TR box sets were rumored way ahead of time, and announced at Toyfair 2017, released that summer). WfC may be the best hope.

My problem with this is that it is usually pretty fundamental transformation mechanisms that are re-used between figures and not details and kibble, like the chest-pieces, wings, or crotches. That's the kind of element that is usually made unique.
I see similar approximations in the overall shape of some elements, but most of those are stylistic choices. The detail is conspicuously different, as well as the overall silhouettes having significantly disparate approaches.

Still, not as crackpot as the Trypticon lying down could be a Titan Scorponock suggestion. :D

beyond that, if you give the block robot fold up wings and a detatchablecockpit to act as a sword hild/shoulder armour it is very possible.

you mentioned his chest, so i think this is more of a cockpit theory.
