Rid Sideburn is the perfect recolor for the MP Rodimus Prime toy mold. it's the fire/ice or ying/yang oppossite color variation color scheme. It makes perfectly great sense for the following reasons: (1) car robots/Rid Speedbreaker's/Sideburn's cartoon character/toy mold had two different color schemes. which were regular first release blue. then the secondary power up red color scheme. (2) the TCC Transformers collectors club next year in 2011. Is giving away a free club toy of the year 2006 classics 1.0 deluxe hotrod/ rodimus toys in blue sideburn colors. (3) In the CR/Rid alternate universe/toy line Sideburn was basically a hotrod character persona. (4) a blue sideburn recolor for the MP Rodimus Prime toy. is a lot more better & orginal than the black & grey borring color scheme.
well duh, that is like saying "hey, thundercracker and skywarp will make an excellent repaint of starscream"
Takara/Hasbro can even get creative,by giving CR/RID Speedbreaker/sideburn 3 different inner robot faces faces. one inner face that looks like his deluxe CR toy, another bigger MP Face perhaps with a face plate instead of a mouth. different weapons/accesories & so forth. Since those Takara guys are great at doing all those wacky binaltech & alterntity origin persona character stories. it shouldn't be too hard to come up with a wacky speedbreaker MP story. like saying Fire convoy left earth or died & gave the matrix to speedbreaker thus he powered up into his MP form. or perhaps say speedbreaker absorbed more matrix energy from ultra magnus & now he can power up into his MP bigger form at will.
I don't think it's a good idea personally. The mold is so iconically Hot Rod/Rodimus that it won't work as anyone else other than a twin (or Primus who originally looked like Hot Rod). It will work for the Classics toy as that design isn't as iconic and with the right colors can be worked to look like Sideburn (especially if the spoiler is left in the down position). Randy
Just becuase it's a cool idea for a repaint I don't see it happening. the MP line is supposed to represent the BEST of a character, the only time this has been questionable is MP Magnus becuase he dosen't have his armor. I just don't see TakaraTomy doing anything like this or an MP Overkill out of Grimlock like I've heard suggested.
I meant in terms of repaints. Plus I don't own MP Megatron so I don't feel I can make a fair judgement on him.
I can see the MP Rodimus mould being recoloured as Primus at some point (since Primus in the Marvel G1 comics looked like a glowing Hot Rod), but I honestly can't see it as Speedbreaker. IMO it doesn't look anything like him. It is an interesting idea though; maybe if someone does a digibash I'd be able to see it, but right now I just don't see it at all.
I don't see it at all. I can understand the Primus repaint for the reasons mentioned, but not Sideburn/Speedbreaker. When I think of Sideburn, I think of the RiD robot design, which is closer to a Movie-style figure than a G1-inspired toy. If you repaint Sideburn a different way, it can work as an homage to Hot Rod for the RiD universe. If you repaint G1 Hot Rod a certain way, it'll be an homage to...different-colored Hot Rod, or Primus if they take a specific route. I can understand the upcoming TFCC repaint because they're limited to repaints anyways, and it can work with the deluxe as an odd homage of sorts(Sideburn having his "Super" repaint being red with flames so it looked like Hot Rod anyways, and now the Classics Hot Rod is getting a blue repaint). I'd only consider it "lazy" if TFCC was actually having entirely new molds created, and all of a sudden we get a repaint, but they don't work like that. With the Masterpiece line, the repaints should be something obvious (the Seekers, Black Convoy, etc.) and not a bizarre stretch. If there ever was an MP Sideburn, it should be it's own new mold and they can do a red Hot Rodish-Super repaint after that.
I agree. I don't think it's a good idea. It's almost saying like (a red) Super Sideburn is the same as Hot Rod, so a blue Hot Rod is the same as (normal) Sideburn. Clearly they're not, but the Classics figure can get away with it because it's not so iconic (unlike the Masterpiece). Randy
No offense, but I wouldn't classify it as original. More like "we realllly don't want to do a standard black repaint (for whatever reason, even though we're Takara and that's our thing) and we need to repaint this into something, so we'll make a desperate connection to another character that has virtually nothing to do with this character design just to hock another one to buyers." Black Convoy makes sense, since Takara has a tradition of sorts with Black Prime repaints. The Seekers are self-explanatory. Grimlock got a Marvel Comics-style repaint. We even got Corpse Prime, which is amusing and morbid at the same time but at least has some basis for existing, I guess. All of those make sense. Sideburn's still a stretch. We haven't had a repaint of MP Megs (not even a repaint inspired buy the toy's original colors under Diaclone or something like that), so I don't see where every MP mold HAS to be repainted into something, no matter how minimal the connection, unless it's pretty obvious. Primus or even a "Crystal" clear version still seem more logical than Sideburn. If they want to start drifting into other continuities within this franchise for the MP line, they should make original molds to go with it.
He's probably not different enough at that large price perhaps? Maybe they don't feel MP Megs is as good as the others or don't want to worry about the problems retailers faced exporting/importing the item? Who knows. Randy
Rid was set in it's own seperate G-1 alternate universe. where sideburn was obviously meant to represent Hotrod. similar to AEC set in another alternate G-1 Universe. Where hotshot was meant to represent hotrod. Honestly Rid sideburn had 2 different color schemes in the cartoon/toy line. first release blue/ice colors. 2nd power up colors red/fire. The TCC club is going to repaint 1.0 Rodimus into sideburn colors in 2011. given all this above info,It makes perfect SHOCKWAVE logical sense to repaint MP Rodimus Prime into CR/Rid Speedbreaker/Sideburn colors/persona.
Since I've never seen the Car robots cartoon episodes. I can't comment the origin or stories. I've only seen the translated Hasbro Rid cartoon episodes.
