Hi, Was hoping to get some help from savvy collectors. I just purchased a G1 Ironhide on eBay, and I think I got hosed. http://www.perfectpixel.se/stuff/ironhide-01.jpg http://www.perfectpixel.se/stuff/ironhide-02.jpg http://www.perfectpixel.se/stuff/ironhide-03.jpg http://www.perfectpixel.se/stuff/ironhide-04.jpg http://www.perfectpixel.se/stuff/ironhide-05.jpg http://www.perfectpixel.se/stuff/ironhide-06.jpg http://www.perfectpixel.se/stuff/ironhide-07.jpg http://www.perfectpixel.se/stuff/ironhide-08.jpg http://www.perfectpixel.se/stuff/ironhide-09.jpg http://www.perfectpixel.se/stuff/ironhide-10.jpg http://www.perfectpixel.se/stuff/ironhide-11.jpg http://www.perfectpixel.se/stuff/ironhide-12.jpg The seller claimed that this is old stock from a toystore, and the orignal USA version. But the chinese sticker on the front and the poor job on the flap made me suspicious. I paid good money for this, so I'm wondering if any of you can tell whether this is a fake. Should've known better /supernova
This is a chinese bootleg ... the sticker is a dead give away. I'm a bootleg collector, so if you want to recoop any of your costs, please PM me.
It is a well done knock-off, but at $199 the guy is robbing people. If he had stated it in the auction that it's a bootleg/counterfeit/knock-off and charged around 1/4 of that price I wouldn't have been complaining. e3nine, it's the same auction where you got those pics. I've contacted the guy and demanded my money back, so I'll wait and see what happens. If he's not so cooperative I guess I'll keep it and consider this an expensive lesson. /supernova
Good luck man. Rest assured that those KO's are absolutely gone, they're not being pressed today. They were once available many years ago, and this is what's left. I haven't seen any more surface except from that one seller. If I do see one, it's usually from a US based collector selling off their stuff. I can't imagine this KO run is larger than the eHobby 1,000 units of 2001.
Well that's somewhat reassuring, that I didn't get totally ripped off here. Thanks for your input. /Supernova
it's possible that this could be legit ... most of the KO's from that era had 2 thing to keep an eye out for 1. the chinese sticker 2. the blacked out portion near the tech specs see how there's a black bar right next to the white text? This is a total mixed bag though. KO Rukus and Seaspray had these, but Beachcomber didn't. The Ironhide pictured here doesn't have that ... but if it was purchased from the guy flashing an entire case in the background, this has to be a ko. Although we (TF fans) have the logic to say what this is or isn't, the admin is right ... the perception is in the eye of the seller.
A black bar? Where? Does anyone have a list of all the G1 toys that have been counterfited to this date? Is it all of them?
under the tech spec on that beat up box I posted ... see the white text? next to that, there's a black bar that covers up even more text. You can kinda see this black thing cut into the ramp's drawing. KO's ... Ironhide Inferno Cyclonus Triggerbot Rukus Triggerbot Backstreet Seaspray Beachcomber Ravage / Rumble tape pack Rumble / Laserbeak tape pack (multiple varations of this) Beastbox / Squaktalk Optimus Prime I know I'm missing some ... hmm
The clones (ironically) - they stick out like a sore thumb since they dont have rubsigns on their chests, and other stickers instead. Also Punch/Counterpunch. I know that's a less common one, but i had one with that sticker on it about 6 years back. There're others i'm fairly sure i've seen - Hound, Ratbat and Frenzy, Headmasters, Powermasters and the remaining Triggerbots and Triggercons. Various TF's have turned up in the normal U.S. packaing but with Korean stickers on them... i suspect these have the same origins. The chinese sticker is always a dead giveaway... and it's pretty much impossible to remove it without damaging the cardboard... if you can't see the sticker, look to see if that spot has been covered up.
Update: The seller is saying she is totally unaware of these MISB Ironhides being counterfeit. She says they were made in the USA for the chinese market, and she acquired them from a distributor in the UK. I don't know what to believe anymore, but as it looks, I was promised a near C10 MISB G1 Ironhide and that's not what I received (see pics on page 1) I hate to come off as such a cry-baby. I'm usually not this picky with G1 MISB TFs, and some wear and tear is expected. But the seller clearly states near C10 in the item description, which is why I paid the $199. Off topic. I got the first 4 SWTF today. Just want to rip them out of the bubble and transform them. Must resist... /Supernova
Why resist? Toys are meant to be played with, except for near mint G1 stuff and even then...if you want to do it, do it. To look is at is grand, to transform divine.

I wonder if the AFA label states it is a Chinese version. I bet it does and the seller is purposely not stating that in the auction description.
I'm very curious to what that Ironhide's AFA serial number is. We'll be able to see how this is entered into the AFA database. I'll ask. that still makes me laugh though ... "chinese edition" ... more like "oops, we let a few slip though and won't admit our mistake"
