So, this was just something I did 'cause I just wanted to see the results for myself, in person, vs. looking at someones video. Using this video: How to do a REALLY Rusty model car - YouTube That SQ7 has already added to the Library here: http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/tutorials-how-tos/456627-how-really-make-rust.html I decided I would give it a go. Using a Mirage, that I had bought for other reasons that never panned out because of the condition of said Mirage, I stripped off everything I could think that I may "some day" use, pretty much glued him all in place except for the doors and hood, and I got to work on what I labeled "Rusty Mirage" He does not Transform!!....Stasis Lock to the EXTREME!! As you can see, that's pretty rusty looking!!....that's only two coats using the Rust Antiquing Set. This was super easy to do. If you can hold and use a paint brush, have a plastic baggie to wrap your project in, and can get the Rust Antiquing Set, then you too can get these same results, if not better, just by following the instructions in the video. For those interested, I have a pictorial step by step that I will post a.s.a.p. Step by step pictorial here: http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/radicons-customs/471402-cosmic-rust-how-pictorial.html
How does it hold up for transformable figures? Will it flake off? It looks a bit fragile but very cool!
Thanks ThyVipera!!...I actually had fun with this one. Thanks....he wasn't in that good of shape to begin with anyways....so no harm, no foul right?.... Thanks for the compliment and info there....good to know that it will hold up to Transformers. I've been opening and closing the doors and hood, and I can say that nothing has come off yet. Thanks Mac!!...and here you go sir: http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/radicons-customs/471402-cosmic-rust-how-pictorial.html
Thanks for the kind words fella's you don't know how hard I have looked for something like that locally.... not one Hobby Shop near me had anything like that....only place I found them was on ePay.
...is this the one you bought offa me? Aww. This is awesome but now that kinda makes me sad. I've been waiting to see if you would restore him to his former glory as a new character or something, I love your beautiful Alt customs. Now I feel like Mirage's ghost is gonna come haunt me for selling him to someone who turned him into a modelocked rustbucket. XD Don't get me wrong, though, you definitely did an awesome job on this! As for tiny cinderblocks... Hmm. Have you considered doing something with dice? Well, those might be a bit large, perhaps attaching two PCC plugs? XD
WOW!! Really feeling that!! gotta give it a go for sure!! I cant seem to find the exact brand been in UK, what you reckon on these? Scenic Rust - Create Real Rust Effects Within Hours | eBay Realistic Rust Weathering kit (textured effects) -(RR1) | eBay I guess buy and try!!
Don't wanna take away from the quality job you have done but no GT40 or GT came with an all steel body so........... it should be all white like alloy when its corroded or falling to bits like fiberglass , but I spose you could imagine a TF forming the body in its own cybertronian steel tho so
