I believe marvel should get the rights to make Transformers comics again. I don't think IDW has been doing a good job since the reboot but I also believe people would be more willing to give Transformers a shot. Lots of comic readers avoid indie comics but love the Big Two. We could also get AMAZING crossovers again and more frequently.

Why would the comics improve under a publisher that inflicts heavier mandates upon its writers than IDW does? Also crossovers are the worst and the last thing this comic needs.

Well, you did say it's a controversial opinion.

To be honest I don't know what writers at Marvel I would trust with Transformers. I will say that I have my doubts that a new Marvel Transformers would be written at all as part of any mainstream Marvel universe, and that it would be for the best if it remained that way. Crossovers with Transformers can certainly work, but they shouldn't be the main draw of the story - they have enough going on, don't drag them into everyone else's stories. On the note of crossover events, this is in general a problem with comics, but especially the Big Two, where crossover events are far too frequent and tend to disrupt the story flow of their component comics. The absolute last thing we need is more crossovers.

Marvel's Transformers comics were only really good when they came out. They haven't stood the test of time and I have no interest in seeing them at a publisher that has no interest in making them a priority.

Marvel getting the license would be very positive for the prospects of good reprints of classic material. The sort of restoration that goes into an Omnibus or Marvel Masterworks release would be wonderful to see with the Marvel US TF material. And ideally the UK material would also finally be truly comprehensively collected, with full sized covers being reprinted along with the stories.

In terms of new stuff, it’d be a dream to see noted UK Transformers fan Kieron Gillen get the opportunity to write his own take. I’ve like everything of his I’ve read, and I think getting a fairly big name on the book would be the advantage of a Big Two publisher getting the license.

Well, if it happened, Transformers could finally have Circuit Breaker and Death's Head appear again.

    You mean now? Modern Marvel?

Fuck no. They can barely treat their own IP's properly these days, why in the shit should we trust them to do Transformers right? Any prospect of them fully and properly re-releasing the original Marvel + UK run doesn't make up for the damage they'd most likely do to it.

Until they purge the hack writers and partisans from positions of authority and influence the likelihood Marvel making anything of quality is incredibly slim.

The only really good runs going on at Marvel right now are Hulk, X-Men, Venom and Thor. With those last two being written by the same writer.

The rest so far range from have potential but don't seem that interesting (Iron Man) to boring and poorly written. So I wouldn't hold out much hope for a Transformers comic to get the best treatment (a Jonathan Hickman Transformers run would be amazing tho, as unlikely as it would be).

I don't know about Marvel, but IMO it's clear that it's time to part with IDW, which makes me sad to say.

I think its almost time for IDW to part ways with being an active business. They won't last much longer the way they are going.

I would say yes, so they can release a proper omnibus release of the Marvel UK run.

You have mtmte if you want a TF book if done by Marvel. The same "lol, so wacky n' meta" humor with "topical observations" can be seen in both books. Hell, they even have the TF being a metaphor for irl groups of people just like X-men do.

I disagree. I can still enjoy them more than the current IDW comics.

The reason why idw is in this situation in the first place is because they thought that they could get away with the same shit dc and marvel was doing. Ooops!
