Im curious, Is there a straight forward continuity of the shows? Or are they all seperate? Like is Beast wars before G1? I really didn't watch post g1 stuff from Japan and such as the japanese language sort of bothers me, and doesn't get me into the shows, though I'm trying now. But all in all, is there any sort of order these shows are in? Or are they in their own continuities?
Well, Beast Wars and Beast Machines are directly tied to each other (except maybe in Takara territory), and Armada/Energon/Cybertron (kinda) are their own continuity. Beast Wars seems to follow a hybrid of the G1 cartoon and Marvel comic for its backstory, but I doubt it bothers the G1 cartoon continuity (which was basically closed before Beast Wars was conceived). It seems even more iffy on whether the Japanese and American G1 cartoon continuities really recognize each other, but both seem to recognize the first three seasons until after "Return of Optimus Prime". Then Japan ignores "The Rebirth" and goes their own way and the American story basically stops. +-MWG-+
US: G1: Beast Wars G1 Season 1, 2, 3, and 4 Beast Machines Japan: G1: Beast Wars (US) Season 1 Beast Wars II Beast Wars Neo Beast Wars (US) Seasons 2 and 3 G1 Seasons 1, 2, and 3 Headmasters Masterforce Victory Zone
I appreciate the responses. Would it be worth getting all these series? The only ones I've seen in their entirety was G1 (I own it) and beast wars. I've seen spurts of the others, but never fully. Should I invest in the entirely of the Franchise? Or are their some to avoid? And Beast machines occurs AFTER G1? Weird
I'm no authority on whether or not they're worth it (Only having most of G1 and sporadic episodes of BW), but I can say, Beast Wars is in the past, while Beast Machines is in the future.
Well this is because Beast Wars starts after G1, but ends up going back in time. To make things more confusing, most of the "flashback" scenes in Beast Wars actually take place in the relative future.
There's a few ways of working it. There's the American G1 continuity, which consists of: G1 Season 1 & 2 - The Movie - G1 Season 3 & 4 - Beast Wars - Beast Machines (Strictly speaking, the Beast shows weren't written to *specifically* follow the cartoons, and treat G1 as a "lore" that they draw from - but aside from the use of the names "Primus" and "Ark", the two shows only ever make cartoon-based continuity references.) There's the Japanese continuity, which goes: G1 Season 1 & 2 - Scramble City - The Movie - G1 Season 3 - Headmasters - Super-God Masterforce - Victory - Zone - Beast Wars - Beast Wars II - Beast Wars Neo - Beast Machines Then Robots in Disguise is it's own thing, Armada-Energon-Cybertron is another continuity, and Animated and Prime are again their own separate universes. On the subject of BW's chronological placement - the CHARACTERS are from a time period hundreds of years after the end of G1, but at the start of the first episode, they travel back in time to pre-history, and the whole BW series takes place then. Beast Machines sees them return to their own future, while II and Neo are both set thousands of years after that.
Wow. Thats one helluva explaination, I assume this has been asked before, And to all who have replied, I appreciate it. I am trying to get a hold of most of the franchises shows, and this is a great list to follow.
I personally think of BW as being after G1 as the characters are from the future but end up in the past
Like a multiverse? Like in DC. That would actually make me appreciate all the -verses much more. Like taking the Movie-verse, Armada etc more serious. Even if its just a mind frame, I may do this from now on. Also, is the headmasters released in the US? Im not a fan of japanese voices (no racism, they just irk me in animation) But I know the english dub is worse.
