What does it even mean to say that TFs have gender? Do they possess primary and secondary sex characteristics? Since from many angles it appears that fembots have breasts and hips, does this also mean that malebots have penises and chest hair? Does the formula of energon running through their robo-veins differ? Are their brains constructed differently? Is there such a thing as robo-chromosomes? (I vote for 84 such entities, if there are any, you know, because...G1.) Does all of this entail robo-romance, robo-sex (metal-on-metal? ouch! brings a whole new meaning to lube: KY^Cybertron), robo-pregnancy, robo-morning-sickness, robo-labor, robo-delivery, robo-abortion, etc.? Is there robo-labor-compensation-discrepancy, robo-chauvenism and/or -feminism, robo-patriarchy and/or -matriarchy, robo-rape? Robo-gender-confusion, robo-gender-reassignment, robo-gender-fluidity? Robo-homosexuality, robo-pansexuality, robo-androgeny?

Malebots are from Mars. Fembots are from Venus.

I'm fascinated by the possibilities that gender potentially introduces. But it clearly opens a whole truckfull of cans of worms.

I snap nothing disrespect just in the fact that you have posted a lot

Likewise not to be rude but most of your questions fall under the category of never asked and never covered not necessarily in mistakes or retcona

But oddly enough some of your questions were covered in the original cartoon series

"Do they possess primary and secondary sex characteristics?"

From an emotional standpoint it's either they do

"Is there such a thing as robo-chromosomes?"

IDW introduced CNA to be equivalent of DNA

" Does all of this entail robo-romance, robo-sex"

    Romance yes
Sex was implied in the beast wars series

    " robo-chauvenism and/or -feminism,"

We saw indications of both in the first appearance of symbols in the g1cartoon.

    ", robo-gender-reassignment"

It's certainly true that the issue of gender among TFs is fascinating, baffling, and kinda a mess. There are countless questions and few answers -- and what answers we do have are mostly unsatisfying.

On the subject of robo-sex, I offer the scene from The Search for Alpha Trion where Optimus "interfaces to [Elita One] with his power filter." While the show conveys it as being something like a blood transfusion, it could also be interpreted as a profoundly intimate, and possibly even sexual act.

I'm pretty sure that establishing the criteria for the thread was to avoid nailing the Movieverse with these sort of errors, but that's what I'm going with anyway...

Every single damn Bayverse movie retconning something in order to establish the new bad. Seriously, why bother with backstory at all? Move on to the explosion porn and get it over with.

The multiverse. The universes were written as if they have nothing to do with each other, yet they insisted on forcing them into a multiverse. All the continuities should have been allowed to be separate and not be part of a multiverse.

In the G1 cartoon, establishing the Autobots and Decepticons as different Quintesson product lines rather than Megatron founding the Decepticons near the end of the Golden Age of Cybertron as implied in Fire in the Sky and War Dawn. The Rebirth ignoring The Return of Optimus Prime, the many Constructicon origins, the very concept of the Robo-Smasher (Transformers should have free will).

I don't see why the Multiverse is a problem

Even in a Multiverse each universe doesn't have to have a connection or a similar story to the others

Exactly. If anything a multiverse helps the separate universes exist independently of each other.

Things like Quintessons and Primacron in one universe, Primus in another universr, and the AllSpark in another universe while multiverse publications claimed that Primus, Unicron, and the original 13 are multiversal singularities.

That's the folds of the writers not the fault of the existence of a Multiverse

I dont see that as a problem, i see it as a blessing. I'd rather have that then everything being the same in every universe, cause i know what we'd have gotten in that case. Not to mention it would defeat the point of writing new stories.

You misunderstood. I was saying that because of those differences, multiversal singularites should never have been a thing.

That i agree on. The whole concept was insustainable from the beginning and if it was rigurously upheld - wich it obviously wasnt - it would have severely limited creativity, wich it affected enough as it is.

But this happened in post season 3 Japanese G1 continuity did it not? I doubt it was in the mind of the people involved in writing the movie at that time.

actually it may very well be that type of animation error

and the matrix should have a place in Unicron's origin.....problem is there's no support in dialogue in the episode to support the use of the animation model in that particular scene

In fact the dialogue in that scene only speaks of an escape so we would suggest that what we might have seen was intended as an escape pod or a shuttle

that's in the American season three continuity is well

To boil down some of the conversation above, the issue isn't having a multiverse. It's the idea of multiversal singularities, or that there is one canonical multiverse that gets to force rules and changes on all the disparate continuities.

Indeed. The issue - as it is always in all situations both in fiction and real life - is tiranny, no matter how it manifests itself or tries to sell itself.

Tyranny might be a little overdramatic :lol

But yeah, it's kinda the "times infinity, no take-backs" of continuity management.
