I never understood what would've made Perceptor think in the episode "Desertion of the Dinobots" that the season two Autobots had been on earth for millions of years, when they clearly hadn't been. Seems to me like he made a misdiagnosis as to why the Transformers were suffering from cybertonium deficiency.

I like to think that they took a page from the comics and a few of the bots were in storage.

    That's the retcon

They are clearly stating that the bulk of the s2 characters arrived with the s1 group

Here's another... in 'Cosmic Rust', the Autobots use their anti-rust cure, 'corrostop', on the Statue of Liberty.

Problem is, the Statue of Liberty is supposed to rust! It's made of copper, which turns a lovely green colour as it oxidises.

Surely spraying corrostop onto the Statue of Liberty would get rid of the green patina and turn it copper-coloured? And yet, in the episode, it stays green throughout. Aaaargh!!!

For Desertion of the Dinobots to claim that the season two Autobots had been on Earth for millions of years, there would've needed for an explanation to be given at SOME point as to why we never saw them in the first season. Since at no point during any episode was there ever an explanation given, the concept of the season two Autobots having been on Earth for millions of years has to be a continuity error.

Sorry but I have to say you're wrong here in your conclusion that is

Yes it would have been nice for them to give us some more details, some more information and obviously some more story into the issue at some point.

But it wasn't "NEEDED, The only thing needed would've been one clear statement of the fact of the issue,One statement that can only have one conclusion

And that's exactly what they gave us

Doesn't really bother me because I love the character, but Inferno clearly died at the end of Season 2 of Beast Wars, but they brought him back anyway. He was freakin' vaporized by energon. Not even Waspinator would have survived.

The Retcon that bothers me the most is Obsidian and Strika. When they were first introduced in Beast Machines it was said that they fought in the great war and generally implied that they were originally Autobots. Though never outright said that's how I interpreted it.

The thing that bothers me about this is that they were reconned into G1 Continuity but we've still never actually seen what G1 Obsidian and Strika were like. I mean their appearance in Beast Machines were in Vehicon bodies that Megatron had built for them, they didn't originally look like that but every depiction of them including the G1 versions still look like the original Beast Machines designs. If they had always looked like that then wouldn't the Maximals have recognized them right away instead of only realizing who they were after learning their names. Plus those designs don't even fit with the G1 Style Transformers... well Strika kinda works but Obsidian with his lack of legs doesn't really fit the blocky humanoid G1 character designs. They look like they're from the future.

I kinda wish they would put more effort into actually creating designs for what a G1 style Obsidian and Strika would look like. I think the best one they've ever done was the Generations Warpath version of Strika but I'm still not happy with their idea of G1 Obsidian. They used a movie mold for him. I kinda like it as an Obsidian just not really a good choice for what is suppose to be a G1 version.

For guys who are suppose to be part of the G1 Transformers they just don't really fit.

It's worse I think when they try to retcon characters into G1 when there's no in story reason for why they should even exist in that continuity. Examples being Lockdown, Lugnut, Bulkhead, Knockout, ect. Just because they're popular in Animated and Prime doesn't mean they need to be shoved into G1 for no reason. I kinda like that there are some characters who don't exist in the G1 continuity. The only characters, in my opinion that make sense to be added into G1 are Obsidian and Strika because it was actually part of their characters in Beast Machines. Anything beyond that does not need a G1 counterpart.

Optimus was mistaken because he himself was the chose one. It was that the timing was not right to use the Matrix.

After all curing a plague that was driving the entire galaxy on the verge of extinction is more of a darkest hour than a planet munching hobo.

Actually when you consider that planet munching hobo had plans on munching this entire universe and then moving on to the next.......

seems to me that at the very least it's an equal Darkest Hour

Well if someone dares tell them something like that in the masterpiece appreciation thread there will be a lynching :lol

I can argue that if they had half a brain, the dinizens of the galaxy could assemble a fleet and beat the crap out of that hobo without the Matrix. Even a single Starship broke his eye and Grimlock melt his ass so....

I also would call a plague that has reached galaxywide proportions in days(?) and turned everyone into a homocidal killer the equal of a planet muching hobbo. How much would it take unicron to munch the entire galaxy? After all he was built at least several million years ago and he still hadnt done 'much'.

Yeah I hate Fun Pub's Shrouding. It is the biggest pile of turd they contributed to the TF mythos behind before their license ended. This is the legacy they left behind and it stinks.

The idea of multiverse singularities (entrenched by Fun Pub's club comic) was a suicide bomb for the entire TF fiction to begin with. Different writers doing their own thing meant a nightmare infinite continuity errors that needs infinite retcons. The (correct) retcon to fix this should have been: there were no such thing as as multiverse singularities to begin with! Fun Pub's Vector Prime, Primus, Nexus Prime, Vector Sigma, Fallen, etc were all just high and delusional, imagining things or are big fat liars.

But instead Fun Pub foolishly tried to cover their previous mistake with another mistake, by introducing the Shrouding story to stop all multiverse singularities from existing henceforth. The problem is, that the Shrouding continues to legitimise that there were multiversal singularities before the Shrouding event. So before a certain point in time, all those continuity errors due to different writers working on different versions of Unicron, Fallen, etc STILL need to be addressed and retconned to resolve continuity errors. With fiction, writers can always continue to write stories that happen before that certain point in time before the Shrouding takes places, so these continuity errors can keep on getting created. The shrouding did not avoid future continuity conflicts at all, because Fun Pub forgot the simple fact that stories can be written that are set in the past. Thanks for nothing Fun Pub! Leaving an even bigger mess that you didn't clean up.

So the Shrouding is yet another continuity error itself that needs retconning.

Somebody should just retcon all Fun Pub stuff out of canon. IDW can have the whole Fun Pub fiction retconned as fan-fiction in the official IDW universe created by a G.I Joe named Fun Savage who tried to get them published but never succeeded and never will because he got stomped to death by Optimus Prime.

No, those are two different things.

Official fiction is anything that is officially produced by Hasbro.

Fan fiction is anything that is written by fans without authorization from Hasbro.

I really hope that was a joke because I shouldn't have to explain this difference. It's literally in the name. It couldn't be any more self explanatory.

Animation mistakes that somehow fans have latched onto.

    A misnamed Grapple created Hauler.

Worst is the 2nd Cyclonus named Armada.

THANK YOU! I can't stand the concept of multiversal singularities. It's, as you said, a suicide bomb that just doesn't work. I'm okay with their being mulitple universes, but they don't ALL have to connect as being the same being.

I love your idea of straight up writing them out of existence. I've been told by some that even the Ask Vector Prime's "official answers" were meant to be taken as satire but don't quote me on that.

If this mess wasn't made, the only thing I'd be okay with is the plot hole created by Beast Wars. Sparks, Stasis Lock, and Primus are a part of it and if it's a sequel to G1, then it has to fit in either the cartoon or the comic. If Primus is PART of G1 cartoon continuity, then Beast Wars fits as its sequel. If Transformers the Movie is no longer part of the Marvel comic thanks to time travel, then Beast Wars doesn't fit as it's sequel.
