So let me start by saying that I fully expected to hate movie Drift, strictly because I hate this whole Samurai bullshit (and granted, a lot of that stems from the annoying-ass weeaboos at my school). But, a Construct-Bot, One-Step Changer, and announcement that he's being voiced by Ken Fucking Watanabe, and I'm coming to love Drift. That being said, here's his Dinobot Rider toy. The vehicle mode is MEANT to be a Bugatti Veyron, but at this scale and price point, we're just lucky the damn wheels turn. It's not terrible, though-like I said, he rolls fine if you get him on a smooth surface, and the black and baby blue are a good color combo. If you look near the (sadly unpainted) headlights, you'll see that they did TRY to get some Bugatti details in-the curved hood details and all. So give the designers credit where it's due. Transformation is a little finicky, but it's really the clips holding it together where the issue stems from-the steps themselves are simple. Remove the sword and Autobot symbol, unpeg the feet, turn them around and stand the guy up. Unpeg the hood and fold the head out (which is tricky as HELL-you might have to use his sword to get the little fucker out). Fold the hood back down, but don't peg it in. Unpeg the arms, slap on his faction symbol, give him his sword, and you got a cute little Chibi Drift. You know, I've heard a lot of racism allegations hurled towards Bay in regards to Drift on this board, and I just don't see it. He's a giant robot samurai- it's not like they'll go all stereotypical and I'm sorry is the Asian robot squinting? I mean... You know what, fuck it. That thing is straight up squinting. The head sculpt, aside from that slightly unsettling detail (I'm kidding, by the way) is actually really well done, and thankfully painted in gold. Sadly, there's no swivel-it's connected by a c-clip. Aside from that, he's ball-jointed at the shoulders, hips, knees, and ankles. Not all Revoltech and shit, but decently poseable-you can get him going all "You And Everything Near You Is About To Get Fucked Straight Up"... To pretentious artsy-fartsy noir shit. So yeah-these Dinobot rider guys are great. I'm strapped for cash with college coming up, so I might just get Lockdown for this series-I still need a Grimlock for them to ride. I'm going with Drift just because I've grown to really enjoy the concept of the character and his creepily human face (also, his one-step toy is fun as fuck), but they all look pretty good-I'd say go with the one you think looks best, and as long as you don't set your expectations too high, you won't be disappointed.
