Honestly, It's no surprise that

Ratchet gets killed off. His Vehicle was hardly shown on set, and not to mention, the footage of him we've seen pretty much gives away his fate.

 

Why did Lockdown took Ratchet's spark, besides? Has he been collecting sparks, to use them for something?

 

Trophies? More unscrupulous soldiers took ears off dead soldiers in Vietnam just because they could.

Could this be the same thing with Lockdown? He takes sparks simply because he can.

 

Honestly, he's done so little up until now that this might be the biggest moment he's had since his intro speech in the first movie. I love him, but he's been in the background mostly in the last 2 films.

I would not be shocked if the chase and killing of him ends up being the big action opening moment, like Blackout vs. Soccent or Prime vs. Demolishor. It'll be a good action scene to open on, and show the current state of the world (Autobots on the run). Then we can have a slower build-up with the humans finding Prime as our proper act 1.

It might end up being nice that he actually gets a send off. The wreckers, Dino, and Sideswipe, might all just have disappeared without a mention at all (which I suppose does always give them the chance to come back in TF5...)

So true. . .We've never really gotten a visual confirmation of Ratchet's medic status at all. That is a glaring error, especially since film is chiefly a visual medium.

he yells to the humans “why??!! I’m an Autobot, were on the same side!” and begs for mercy  

 

Lock down rip off his spark and his head was burned for experiment

seeing ratchet's melted head made optimus lose his cool...
and we got to see leadfoot getting wrecked (the irony) by the humans too..
very tragic and sad

 

As I said in one of the other threads, I'm just glad they actually show Optimus being emotional over the death of one of his friends this time.

A real shame Ironhide didn't get this treatment.

 

yeah man... this makes him a lot more relatable and 'alive'

 

It was well overdue for Prime to show grief, and I was thrilled with his response. Felt a lot more genuine than i've heard Cullen voice Prime in years.

 

It was a pretty sad moment when Ratchet was asking for mercy. Who can blame him? He was on the human's side in ROTF and DOTM. It was so sad to see him die.
