*dittos most of what's been said* It's all about what your usage is. Long term storage with little need for access, DVD. Just need more space, External Drive. A third option, that I know of because of a classmate, is a fireproof external hard drive, but it's like 3 bucks a gig. However it will hold up to a full on house fire without any loss of data.
What about external hard drives vs. an internal hard drives? I want to get an external hd instead of an internal, but it seems to me that external hard drives fail within a year, mainly due to inadequate cooling. Any comments on this? How long have you guys had your external hard drives? Thanks in advance.
At my old job, we used to smash those puppies with sledge hammers. God, that was great. Those platters make pretty good frisbees!
i use a internal HD in a external case...that way, its a external (for my laptop) til i get back home and install it into my desktop computer....plus, internal = way cheaper than external...but the drawback is you will need a plug outlet for both.... there's the pocket sized one where it uses the USB power....but that too is costy compared to internal.
