I think I may have some sort of virus on my computer, but not sure. Anytime I try to look up something on Google or Yahoo, any link I click send me to "Yellow Pages" site and if I hit the back button it send me to some weird search engine site. This is happening on both Firefox and IE. Also, on Google it doesn't let me change my preferences or anything. I've run a couple anti-virus and spyware programs but no luck. Anyone have any ideas? With this and my 360 going belly up I'm having a banner of a weekend!
Make that third. Malwarebytes helped detect and delete trojans (which might cram suspicious links in your History folder) and spyware/malware that Ad-Aware couldn't find.
I had an issue like this a while ago. I downloaded PC Tools Spyware Doctor. Just the free version, and it stopped the hijacking. Hasn't come back since.
Thats ok. I had a pretty bad week myself. Found out I have diabetes, and the furnace broke Friday night, forcing me to have to miss work on Saturday to fix it.
If you go to a search page and get redirected to another, then yes you have a page hijacker on your system. Try the usual spyware cleaners (malwarebytes, Spybot, Windows Defender, lavasoft's anti-spyware)
After scanning the computer a few million times, it got to a point where it had me reboot. Yet after the reboot it would not let windows start up. After a few attempts I ended up reinstalling Windows. Now I want to just reformat the C drive clean off the whole hard drive and do a new reinstall of Windows. What is the recommended way to pretty much nuke the hard drive and purge it of everything to get a fresh install?
google DBAN. download the .iso and burn to a CD. Will wipe to Department of Defense standards. Very neat and painless.
