If Hasbro were to produce these tomorrow, or even a 3rd party, that will never diminish the value of what this set is.

Now that we know it's a fan, I'm guessing Paul Hitchins or Tony Preto.

-SS (although Andrew Hall *might* have the cash..)

Contrabass saxophone (Eb) - Benedikt Eppelsheim

This is what I would have purchased, had I had an extra almost $27K to spend. It's about the same as what that set went for.

Also, on the way home from teaching today, I saw a gently used, slightly dated, motor home (or RV) in a front yard for $7000. Three of those plus enough left over for gas and groceries, or one great set of G2 Stunticons?

As others have said, thank you Starwarsprotos for participating and making this more fun for everybody. I am relieved that this historic set went to somebody who will share it; this person will be a legend in the community. As for guesses... H_D maybe, or Brr-icy? Two people with the means for excellent photography.

I LOLed hard at the "there are many fish in the sea, but G2 Stunticons come along once in a lifetime" remarks. I would bet the winner is not married. Unless he's as loaded as Bill Gates, no wife would approve.

I like the way Yahoo Japan does it. If a bid is placed in the last 5 minutes it resets the clock to 5 minutes giving the recently outbid another shot...the auction doesn't end until 5 minutes pass without a bid.

Would have been interesting to say the least to see how high this would have gone with the big players at the end.

As much as I would have loved to have it, for $26,000+ I would have finished my soon to be game room with Addams Family Pinball, Street Fighter Pinball and probably a dozen or so arcade machines while my wife gets to remodel her art studio / snake breeding racks.

A conrabass saxophone is also about as useful in the grand scheme of things as g2 stunticons. There is probably more music written for them too.

Ugh...I despise that system. I've gotten into bidding wars that have extended the auction 2 hours. Not fun at all. There needs to be a set time for the auction to end. Otherwise you are just feeding the seller over and over again.

Oh. I have moulds of Menasor's head so I can get the winner a placeholder head in the right colour :)

If this is a fan/collector... they might start hitting up those few collectors that do have the real G2 Menasor head already to sell. ...or since it's probably a pretty serious collector maybe they already have it.

Oh, I wouldn't wish that. Though if 2015 sees combiners made, a set of Stunticons would seem likely. And if that's made I'd think an exclusive G2 set would follow. Not the same thing, but perhaps still some level of silliness.

Yep, very much. A new car is going to cost me less.

Somebody should print up some T-shirts with the G2 Stunticons on them. "I bid $1 on the G2 Stunticons," or something. I want one.

That is a sweet pinball.... I would like to eventually get Twilight Zone..I had Data East Star Wars and sold it, regretted it ever since. I have always had a fondness for the Indian Jones and Jurassic Park machines as well.

I've actually had pretty good luck with the system, I think the longest I ever duked it out with someone was about 25 minutes.

In this case it only cost the seller $100 since we know the high bid on the final snipe, unless the current top 2 would have stayed in...then it could have cost the seller several thousand dollars.

Oh good, that makes sense. I mean, what's $14 compared to $26000?

    Nah wasn't me

They made far more of these than people think, esp the cars. The set is only worth 5k IMO (I'm obviously wrong though!)

All the high bidders have done is make this #1 on the Chinese bootleggers list!

Crazy to see a sample toy selling for more than G1 hardcopy's do!

    Cheers

We are in the process of buying a home right now, which is a big part of why I wasn't in the hunt (I think my wife may have had reason to kill me if I spent that big a chunk of the down payment $$$) but I've been told that once we're in and settled we will be getting one for the home since she knows I've wanted one for many years.
