Got my toyhax stickers for G1 Jazz and he looks a lot better now. Also did the chrome vinyl wrap on Downbeat's shins. It's far from perfect but much better than the streaky mess the molotow turned into when I tried it.

The Studio Series looks so much better decorated like that - it's so plain otherwise - but those enhancements really makes it pop !

Back in 84, the best we had was THIS. And thousands of kids were delighted if they were fortunate enough to have Santa Clause put one of these under their tree...

    20211012_174311_HDR~2.jpg

But imagine if the ghost of Christmas Future coordinated with Santy Clause and put THIS DS001 Crimson Wing under the tree!

    20211012_174236_HDR~2.jpg

Umm... in 1984, I think we got hosed!

    20211012_174153_HDR~2.jpg

But maybe Starscream was just a fluke. What about the exclusive, mail-order Reflector?!

    20211012_172804_HDR~2.jpg

    Okay? and now... FansToys Spotter!

    20211012_173045_HDR~2.jpg

Ooof!! Times must've been tough in 1984!!

    20211012_173159_HDR~2.jpg

In 1984 we had no internet, no Netflix or HBOMAX... but one thing we did have was Jetfire!!

    20211012_173906_HDR~2.jpg

But instead of THAT Robotech knock-off, imagine if that Ghost of Christmas Future, conspired with Santy Clause to get THIS into the arms of little kids EVERYWHERE!!

    20211012_220746_HDR~2.jpg

FT-14 Phoenix kinda crushes the competition!! Hopefully he doesn't yellow like his predecessor.

    20211012_220511_HDR~2.jpg

The other Two Seekers (somehow, I don't recall calling them Seekers in 1984...)

    20211016_180147_HDR~2.jpg

...and their counterparts from about 25 - 30 years later!

    20211016_172957_HDR~2.jpg

Damn Santa!! You're a mystical being!! Timeless!! You couldn't have at least brought us a few figures from an age when Hasbro/Takara finally figured out how to make a realistic fighter jet?! I guess Reaganomics weren't helping you out either.

I can't believe I tried to SHOPLIFT these things!!

    20211016_180020_HDR~2.jpg

But maaaannn what I wouldn't do for a set like these? Are you hearing me Satan?!?

    20211016_173326_HDR~2.jpg

    1984...

    20211012_173621_HDR~2.jpg

    NOW!!

    20211012_174451_HDR~2.jpg

But hey... at least we had MTV! Right?! Are you feeling me on that one?!? The Bugles!! Blondie!! Twisted Sister Videos!! Dio's Holy Diver!! Micheal Jackson's Thriller!! That one animated video from Allan Parson's Project... and of course.. Duran Duran DURAN!!

Well... sure... its tough to beat all that... except that I DIDN'T HAVE MTV!!!

What can I say... my parents weren't into paying money for cable television. And I guess as timeless as ol' Chris Cringle is... he's NOT The Doctor! He doesn't have access to a Tardis!

    But imagine if he did!

    Thanks @ph4zed!!!! Much appreciated!

What is this Retrobrite you speak of?! Right now, it sounds like FANTASTIC news!!

In all the talk of yellowing, and the dangers of UV on white plastic... I'm surprised that I didn't notice anyone posting about Retrobrite before!!

I guess I need to look into this further!

How careful do we need to be when applying Retrobrite?! Can a user accidentally bleach out the reds if they aren't careful enough?!

Thanks again for introducing me to the wonders of Retrobrite!

It's pretty magical. The one I linked (I am guessing you aren't in the US since you say 'cheers' but maybe you are, ha!) is gel packets, so you can just put it on where it needs it. Put it in the sun for the day and wipe it off to see how it's coming along... if you don't have strong sun, it will take longer.. maybe even a day or two. It absolutely won't hurt colored plastics, just don't put it on the stickers. The alternative is to use a hydrogen peroxide solution, submerge in something with a glass/clear plastic lid so the sun can work its magic. I didn't suggest that because submerging it would ruin the stickers... anywho... it will totally bring him back to life!!

I wonder if a uv lamp (the kind I use for curing resin) would be sufficient or of you really need actual sunlight.

Personally, if I were gonna do this, I'd probably just go ahead and destroy the stickers and then replace them with reprolabels rather than trying to be careful not to get the retrobrite on them. On the other hand, looking at Necrobot's pics, the stickers are in excellent condition and I would guess that replacing original stickers with reprolabels lowers the value, if you care about that sort of thing.

Anyway, I don't own anything that's yellowed but I'm glad you shared this. I'll remember it if any of my figures take a turn for the worse.

I think a proper UV lamp that had a good wattage would do the trick. Maybe even a full spectrum grow LED, though I haven't tried it like that. It's good for a whole slew of things. If you have some original Lego bricks, or maybe an old Atari ST lying around...

Some "Oxy" laundry powders can also be used if you can't get hydrogen peroxide at a decent concentration. These frequently contain sodium percarboante, which breaks down into hydrogen peroxide and sodium carbonate (aka Washing Soda) in water. They also have additives which act as a catalyst and help the reaction at lower temperatures.
UV lamp containers are common in the Retrobrite community. A lot of places just don't get the sunlight necessary (think the UK with its collection of old Commodore computers) so they have to use alternatives. Heat can also be used but try to keep it below 100°c, which works well in a pot of water and peroxide on the stove as it will naturally maintain sub-100°c temperatures or just evaporate (NB Don't plan on using the pot for food later).

I've also seen that simply leaving parts in the sun can help restore them. But that would depend on why they yellowed in the first place - yellowing from straight up UV exposure won't exactly be helped by straight up UV exposure, but cigarette smoke discolouration could be helped.

Yeah. But probably, those "lucky" kids couldn't transform it, because of no YouTube and with lame instructions.

Interesting comparison shot. I've not seen another collection that had both hybrid and toon versions of so many characters. Just my opinion, but I think Gundog 2Y works better as a toy-leaning Hound.

Is it just a trick of the light, or does your MP-18+ have grey helmet wings? They don't look red in the photo.

I think it might just be the photo that makes the helmet wings look grey. Sadly I only have the figures from the bottom photo. Due to limited space I have to sell the ones that have been upgraded. Ideally it would be nice to keep the older versions in alt mode.
