Grimlock (G1, MP-08, Studio Series, Toyworld Grimshell, FansToys Grinder)

 

Kind of blown away that I prefer a Studio Series CHUG over all of them.

 

Yeah, I can kinda see why you say that.

Specially the lack of "Please don't start flaking on me" chrome

 

That SS 86 grimmy has THE BEST proportions in robot mode IMO.
Grinder looks best overall considering all modes (ss86 dino mode and finish and detailing are way lacking). if gigapower was here it'd be a tight race!
Finish and detailing mp-08 still competes with grinder (i do prefer the TRU version though), but i can't get past the WAY too high shoulders anymore.
Also MP-08 has the best stock dino mode (aruguably grinder with g1 head upgrade is better). i'm gonna relegate mp-08 to dino mode and put him with SS86 and CHUGs/chugsterpieces stuff. SS86 for bot mode to go with CHUG/WFC stuff.

of course nothing beats G1 for nostalgia. i had my pre TF blue pants takara one stolen from me as a child though...as an adult i found a g1 TF version and have had him almost 20 years.

 

MP still takes it for me in Dino mode, but I feel like the proportions on the SS86 bot mode are undeniable!

I absolutely love Bii. It’s by far my favorite G1-esque interpretation of BB. I’m so glad we have a C BB figure without a derpy face.

 

Agree, TW Bii has been my MP Bee for years. He cleans up so well, I've never even considered replacing him. Truly an underrated figure.

I have to say, one thing I don't see talked about enough is the steps taken on the Retro Headmasters line to truly emulate the old boxes, down to the transformation steps and poses of the toys. Kudos to that folks that put that level of care into the packaging! I love it!(G1 Headmaster pictured is a KO).

Yeah, with a second run of DX9 Carry/Terror starting to trickle out, I'm very much in a place where I'm telling myself "well, for $20 more than Kingdom Rodimus I can get a trailer-inclusive 3p."

Siege Jetfire is really one of the all-time great official toys. Commander class is such a great idea. Sky Lynx was a great follow-up.
