While they don't need to go back and rehash G1's plot, I'd love to see a cartoon style similar to G1. Animation quality along the lines of a Gundam or Macross series. Honestly if they wanted to these days they could do a entire series in the same animation quality as the G1 movie. Something of the quality of Korra or the recent New Thundercats series. CG is holding back the character amount and you could have more characters that appear short term and a larger army cast in a traditionally animated series. That was one nice thing about Animated was huge casts and background cameos even if they never spoke a line of dialog. Heck pull a Warner Animated and release a straight to video of something like War With in to appease older fans.

They need to make a G1 pg13 animated film. You can even do short stories ala animated matrix. This would sell. It would have atleast one story for everyone.

It could even be made quickly, different animators and styles on each short story.

End it with a optimus megs battle where one shall stand one shall fall.

TELL ME HOW THIS WOULD FAIL

    You found me out.
I'll let you borrow the time machine after I get it back from Goaliebot. :)

It does sound like the best class ever.

    Depends, any number of reasons
    Poorly written plot
    Bad voice work
    Animated on the cheap.

Yes a straight to video would probably work, but there is no firm way for them to know.
It would depend on the company they used.
Take transformers Animated, I enjoyed the series, but I look at the opening for the Japanese version, and I keep thinking why couldn't we have gotten animation like that?

    You're not the only one.
I thought Hasbro was going to do Direct To Video projects around the time GI Joe Resolute came out.

A PG13 tf like resolute would kill it in direct to video sales and a toyline based off it.

Perhaps some definition would be helpful for this "debate".

What defines a G1 reboot? Are you wanting Spike and Chip back? 4 million years spent sleeping under Mt. Saint Hillery? Carbombia?

If you want Transformers to be updated to modern setting then that's what we've gotten since RID. It's been updated to appeal to the children of that era. That's been the defining trait of every reboot; make it relevant to kids again. And that's basically what it SHOULD be.

To want a completely faithful retelling of G1 would almost assuredly be a financial failure in the eyes of this arm chair CEO.

It could work but it would likely limit the writers creative freedom which could hold it back from being a great piece of fiction on its own merits. How about a generations adaptation as a happy compromise? That is sort of what they have been doing with Idw to great affect.

If anything, I would like to see the IDW-verse get adapted into an animation. These is plenty of material and lore to work through. Spotlights would work like the G1 episodes that focused on one character, and could be intertwined with the longer story arcs making up the bulk of each season. Not to mention the cross marketing by drawing more attention to the comics and the figures that are being produced already with the Generations line.

I think it'd be better to show what occurred before G1 started up on Earth. What were the Transformers up to during the time Optimus Prime and Megatron left? Who was in charge of Iacon City as it fell to Shockwave's forces? It would be interesting to see what happened in the aftermath as Autobots faced extermination, as well as Shockwave's management of Cybertron's dwindling supplies of energy towards the end of the series. The end of the series would then be when Shockwave and the scattered Autobots pick up a signals that Optimus and Megatron have awakened on Earth.

That would be interesting, and it could have cameos from the G1 characters

It could be like two story lines that fit in perfectly together. Wait, no, I'm thinking of something slightly different.
