Let's face it, even an article that was posted a few months ago agree, that if Hasbro wants to make Transformers relevant, it needs to go back to its roots. I say REBOOT G1 for the current crop of new and old fans. Have some sort of time travel story that alters the G1 timeline a la Star Trek or just start fresh with a G1-like storyline. They can release updated versions of the G1 character toys with better articulation and modernized alt modes.

People have been rebooting G1 in one way or another for like 10 years now.

I think the key thing is that Transformers has had a shrinking cast over the years.

Also, we need to go back to having off-the-wall vehicles.

The only TF continuities that aren't a rebooted G1 are... G2 and BW? Everything else is seemingly G1 re-imagined.

Uhh, that's not a good thing? More character development?

Nobody wants to reboot G1 because it's boring to do so, and to make it not boring, well that's every TF series ever.

Yeah I'm pretty sure the shrinking cast is for the best, more character development and more time to actually enjoy their development as characters without having to wait an entire season for them just to get a one episode spotlight.

And off the wall vehicles? I'm pretty sure the recent shows and toylines have that covered:

How exactly would a reboot of G1 be any different than any other version of the show?

Reduced the cast of characters? Focus on re-imagined older characters? Focus on a story instead of selling toys?

Hasn't that been exactly what most shows have been doing since Armada?

    Yeah, this.

Didn't IDW reboot? Isn't the Generations line a reboot?

I adore G1 for better or worse. My 4 year old nephew is addicted to TF:TM and insists on watching it on my phone every time I see him (even though I gave him the movie on DVD...)

I think that it's a testament to the original show that it is still able to captivate kids in such a way - things don't require ridiculous amounts of CGI to be acceptable, or over-the-top gimmicks and accessories.

    A reboot of G1 wouldn't be G1 enough.

What if they did a transformers like the Avengers anime where kids use pokeballs to summon the Avengers to fight. But just do that with the transformers.

*I swear I'm not on drugs just thought it'd be a cool reboot*

It was called Armada, and it was part of a trilogy. After the trilogy, there was Animated, then it was called Prime, with a spin off series called, Rescue Bots. Then there's a new one called Robots In Disguise.

As for the live action movie, it was called Transformers. Its currently at work with movie number 5.

...That's...I...I'm actually okay with this. Sure, why not? Hell. Make it a videogame too!

Every time they homage, rehash or update the G1 concepts, the fans do nothing but bitch about everything that isn't exactly like G1. A full on reboot of G1 would be no different.

Wasn't that the whole premise of Armada. "Hey guys, we gotta collect all the mini-cons and use them for their cool new powers"

Everything in Transformers is by it's very nature either one of the trinity (Marvel Comics, Sunbow Cartoon, and Tech Specs) or a reboot of G1.

And besides, every show since Beast Wars has done that crazy thing that franchises do and had... You know, the same basic premise and recurring cast members. Which is heresy to a gigantic ammount of the fanbase, for some reason, but whatever.
