After receiving negative criticism that my last attempt at this was rushed and sloppy, I got tired of looking at it. So I let him take a quick alcohol bath and scrubbed him clean. Now let's see if I can do better this time. So what am I doing differently? For starters I'm putting in more effort to tape things off. And the reason I'm doing that is because I realized I had some white spray paint in the garage. This is after two light coats and drying all night. As you can see I've got just a couple areas to touch up and I'll be done with the white. If it's dry enough before I have to go to work, I'll be applying some detailing to the wings later today. I'm also going to be applying a clear coat this time around. As it so happens, my dad is storing some clear coat here for when he paints his boat, and he won't miss just a little bit (he bought extra). I've already tried some on the black I added to the legs and it looks quite nice.
I'll have the red stripes done before I leave today. If I'm not too tired when I get home I'll add the blue. The tail fins were difficult to tape so I tried my hardest to carefully paint them straight. Luckily they'll be mostly covered in combined mode.
So far everything as been drying quicker than anticipated, so here he is sans wings and calves. The nosecone will need a patch up, as well as the crotch. Then the silver parts of the torso will be painted red just like last time. The other remaining parts are currently outside having their clear coat dry.
Well I think its safe to say that after this, I won't be doing anymore full figure customs that involve white.i have not the patience for it. It still looks better than last attempt. The white doesn't look so thick and globbed on, and it all has a glossy finish because of the clear coat. But there's still too many scratches at rub points where even the clear coat couldn't hold after sitting all night. It looks best as an arm for Superion so that's how it's gonna stay.
Krylon ultra flat white primer and Krylon chalky classic white are good white alternatives. They dry almost immediately.
White is a horrible horrible colour to paint I absolutely hate it and try to avoid it as much as i can (And here i am doing a prowl) Looks much much nicer now
White is definitely a pain in the but to paint, red can be too. Other than a few spots that look like a light sanding would fix I think it turned out well
The only white I'll use now is Tamiya spray. Krylon and Rustoleum take 5-7 days to cure and are tacky until then. It really screws stuff u for me.
