I've done a lot of customs over the past 8 months or so (which I still need to share here), and here is my latest. I bought both CW and UW Computron, swapped out CW Strafe and Lightspeed, for the UW versions, and sold off UW Scattershot, Afterburner, and Nosecone. I purchased the KO hands and feet, and the PC-11 upgrade kit, where I repainted the face. I altered CW Afterburner by removing the gunmetal paint from his upper arms, and added silver to the pipes there, and I also removed the blood-orange paint from his legs. I also swapped out the bottom portion of his combiner-peg for CW Strafe's. CW Nosecone was significantly altered via the use of Shapeways parts by SteamShield, and given some extra paint details as well. The head and drill were both replaced, and he was given a weapon-set reminiscent of his G1 weapons. Scattershot only had minor alterations. I painted his face and alt-mode nose silver so they would stand out better, removed the red paint entirely from his rifle, and also constructed a new rifle for him, using parts from my parts-bins. Lastly, I added some parts from an Energon Scorponok to his upper-legs to further differentiate them from Superion's, and give him a more G1 look.
Afterburner looks much better with the all-orange arms. What did you do to remove the black paint, if you don't mind my asking? And to remove the red paint on his legs?
Thanks guys! I soaked the parts in Denatured Alcohol overnight. However, I quickly found out that the gunmetal portion of Afterburner's upper-legs was also paint, so I had to repaint them *lol*
As a fellow customiser, do you think if I give a black wash on soe parts of Hasbro's CW computron would it still be good or should I stick with the reprolabels set?
Its just straight-up Tamiya brown. It was close enough to the brown on Hasbro Nosecone, that I just went with it. I generally avoid black washes much of the time, unless I'm doing silver metallics. But if its something you like seeing on figures, I say go for it.
I'm really thinking about going ahead with the blackish tbh. On another note, what brand of paint did you use for your customisations? But I will definitely be getting the reprolabels set. I Hope that it will turn out to be good because I'm a fairly new customiser.
Yeah, I'm definitely getting the reprolabels too. Money was tight over the holidays, but I'll be able to order them soon. I use mostly Testors Model-Master Acrylics, Tamiya Acrylics, and Games Workshop Acrylics and Washes. The GW stuff is for detail work, or its applied over a base-coat of a more durable paint. I also use Tamiya Spray-Primers, Krylon Sprays, and have also used Testors Primers and Laquers. You have to be careful with these and not use them on the "unpaintable" nylon plastics, or on the softer, more rubber-like plastics. Eventually I'm going to move on to airbrushing, I just haven't been able to do so as yet.
