I'm loving this set. Hell, I love all this Combiner Wars/Unite Warriors stuff. I love it so much I think I'm even going to buy Victorion!

This Computron looks like he could kick Unite Warriors Computron's ass. Is anybody else calling him Computron 2.0? He feels like an upgrade to me.

 

The opposite IMO. But if you like him that much, it's all that matters.

 

I'm also buying UW Computron, I think he's awesome too. Takara knocked it out of the park with the remolding. I'm just saying that with things like the armored face, new hands, feet giving him extra height, and the addition of two mini bots, he seems "powered up".

 

I wasn't knocking your opinion just so you know, it's cool that you like this one. The feet alone do make a difference and look worlds better than the PE ones IMO. the hands though...they look like G1 hands upscaled. It would have been cool to at least allow the fingers to open, even if they were all pinned together at the knuckle joints. I would love HasTak to release the hands and feet, if they don't...it seems seriously odd they'd make them a one off on the second to last Combiner they'll be making only.

So I have a question for anyone that owns this set. What is the color of the plastic underneath the white paint on Afterburner? Is it orange? If so, I wonder if it would be worth it to anyone to take the figure apart and give that piece an alcohol bath to get the white paint off and down to bare orange plastic. I honestly think it would be a major improvement to have more of the figure in orange.

 

a few parts on mine rubbed off, and it turns out to be black.

 

... what? The only section with "white" paint on Hasbro Afterbreaker is on the back, and the plastic underneath is very definitely orange.

 

now that i've had a better look, i can see it is orange.....it looked black before. my house's lighting sucks.....

 

Lol, well, with that being the case, I wonder if trying a paint removal would make Afterburner look more uniform then? You'd have to push a pin out of the torso to get it apart but it seems to be doable and the end result would be more orange in vehicle mode.

God, this is such a sexy looking color scheme and it almost makes me regret purchasing UW computron despite it looking a lot more like the characters.

 

A friend of mine got the set for his kid, his personal set is the Takara...I can just say without a doubt I am seriously glad I got the Takara. The Afterburner was an even bigger disappointment in hand. And Lightspeed was as much just a Red Streetwise as the Nosecone was just another Brawl. Strafe was OK for being an actual retool, but didn't look enough like him for my tastes, still just Air Raid with a few new parts, and those wings look seriously rediculous sticking up on the forearm in arm mode.

Combined mode was just OK, the colors just didn't work for me. I'd rather have the G1 toys for as much as these are as loosely based on those decos as they can be and still try to be the characters. For as much as I don't like Brawlcone, his colors are the only ones that scream this is who I'm supposed to be, Strafe is close but still off, Scattershot is OK, the others just feel like random messes to me.

Now, if I wanted to spend $90 for limbs and call them by other names for Sky Lynx...I would consider them, but as the Technobots... No, not for me.

I am one who really wanted a toy accurate Afterburner and Lightspeed...I would have bought the set just for those two...but they are not anyway near as toy deco based accurate as the previous CW figures have tried to be. It really feels like they just did this at the last minute IMO.

 

Steamshield's upgrades for the CW Technobots on shapeways.com really makes a huge difference, especially Strafe's guns and Nosecone's new head. Nothing can save CW Lightsteed though, I got a UW Lightspeed to replace him.

 

Forgive me for not being more knowledgeable about this but, are all the Steam Shield parts "paint-it-yourself"?

 

Sadly yes. If somehow they could introduce a service for painting the items you buy that might be very interesting but the service would probably come at a considerable extra cost.

 

I'm getting over the toycolours personally. I have the UW version with both PE sets and it is the Ultimate Computron for me. He really is the culmination of the UW line so far, but i hope Liokaiser will surpass his sheer awesomeness.
