I watch this every time i have constipation. I have a sympathetic colon and watching this crap makes it inspired to make it own.

 

Those episodes were free to watch in Hasbro's Latin American YouTube account with Spanish subtitles by the time it was released in Go90. We got all the episodes but the preludes.

 

Help me understand why this is so bad. I liked it.

GO WATCH PRIME BECAUSE IT DOESN\'T SUCK UNLIKE THIS SERIES!  DDD

 

Why this show is disliked by so many people:

- The pacing is awful. For a "series" that's only 40 minutes in total, it contains an awful lot of padding, like Starscream flying for an entire minute.
- For a series called "Combiner Wars", there's a severe lack of combiners, any sense of those few combiners who appear being actual individual robots that combine, and anything resembling a "war" between them. Of the four Combiners that appear, only one of them is ever indirectly acknowledged as being a composite of several smaller characters by having three of them appear as individuals. In general, the titular "Combiners" are presented as mere background extras rather than the main characters of the plot.
- The setting is extremely ill-defined. Why are these "Combiner Wars" that seem to take place mostly offscreen happening? Why do the Combiners exist? Why are they fighting? What cause, if any, are they fighting for or against? It can't be the Autobot or Decepticon causes because what remains of these factions appears to be caught up in the midst of it as collateral damage. Are the Combiners rampaging rage monsters like the Hulk? Are they having a feud?
- How did the council obtain the Enigma of Combination? How exactly is it supposed to "control" the Combiners? How do they know it can do that?
- Many of the characters are either bland (Optimus Prime, Rodimus), written extremely out of character (Windblade), or seem to be written as a somewhat interesting take on the character only for a last minute out-of-the-left field twist for no reason other than "that's the way the character has always been presented" (Starscream). Hell, one of the prologue videos had Starscream confirm that he is sincere about having changed by an internal monologue, so his sudden face heel turn makes absolutely no sense. What was he hoping to accomplish, exactly? What was his endgame? The world will never know. (Seriously... becoming a giant screaming disembodied head is up on par with "turning into a giant snake" as far as stupid pointless villain plans go.)
- How can Windblade kill a Combiner single-handedly with such ease? Why, if she can do this, are the Combiners considered such a threat?
- Lots of cringe-worthy moments. Maxima's death lacks any emotional depth because of how poorly it is handled.
- The animation is Energon levels bad. And that was 13 years ago.
- Also, releasing a show that's intended to promote a toyline after said toyline had already completed its retail run isn't exactly the best timing in terms of cross-media synergy.

The only thing that saved this show from being an absolute disaster was Megatron, who was actually an interesting take on the character, presenting him as a "veteran soldier" type character with a lot of dry wit.

 

Let Maxima forever be Canonized as Saint Hi & Die, patron of terrible writing and characterization.
Forever will her voice be known as having had less than 1 minute of actual dialogue that somehow perpetuated an entire character motivation.
Look upon her, o fan, gaze upon her countenance and realize that someone got paid a substantial amount of money to create a fanfiction you could have made in 10th grade.
Look upon her, o fan, and despair.

 

She literally cuts Menasor in half with her sword and then the next time you see her Optimus Prime blocks the sword effortlessly with his axe.
So apparently Optimus can one-hit-kill Combiners as well.
How many other Transformers can do that then?

 

Do yourselves a favor and watch this instead.

 

Oh, good. Still got a few working brain cells left.

Watching this again should take care of the problem.

 

Depends on who wrote the script that day. And by "wrote" I mean "scribbled hastily on a cocktail napkin after happy hour".
