I have been a big fan of transformers for a long time and I think I have may have come to a conclusion and I think i have enough information to back myself up:

After reading the comic line for the combiner wars I've come to the conclusion that Omega Supreme is one of the first COMBINERS.

IF you look at his setup: the tank, the rocket, the Tracks, and the gantry/ base you can work out 4-5 separate parts.

This group of bots could have used the enigma being a part of a security detail that worked closely.
I'd love to go into more detail but i want to see if there is any potential to this theory?

Omega's more of a parts-former and not a combiner. The individual pieces aren't sentient.

but thats my point. Omega could have been the original combiner. and now his parts are dormant because they've been in the gestalt mode for so long

Even though he's not a proper gestalt I voted for Omega. He's got a back story and character flaws witch was rear back then for anyone in a children's show.

Omega is no more a combiner than Optimus Prime is. Optimus was made up of three components in vehicle mode (cab/trailer/Roller). But Optimus is all three simultaneously, even when separated. Omega Supreme works on the same concept.

Devy and Co. work on a wholly different set of rules in that the gestalt has no control over the other components, who are themselves individuals. These guys are teams uniting their minds to control a giant.

So, no, the two are not the same.

Now, if you want to pretend that Omega Supreme's components were once individuals who could transform on their own and act independently, more power to you. Just realize that it's all head canon.

I really never saw Omega as a combiner.

Menasor and Bruticus are tied for first.

Sky-Lynx also falls under the same "combiner but not really" category that Omega Supreme and Optimus Prime fall into, as both parts are Sky Lynx and not two separate, distinct beings.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but even with the existence of the Enigma of Combination, it's been firmly established that Omega Supreme, as far as IDW goes, existed before combiners in any form. Rather, he's kind of a mini-titan, the bodyguard for the Metrotitan who slept under Crystal City - which later got leveled by the fight between OS and the frankenstien's monster like Monstructor who was Jiaxus's attempt to make a unified combiner without the 'lost' Enigma of Combination. Formerly held by the actual first combiner; Nexus Prime.

Plus, splitting the pieces down into individual parts wouldn't suggest any point in them once having been separate and sentient - he turns into a base. And that's only the original toy, the tracks themselves exist only for the tank to drive on them - an entirely purposeless concept if one considers this limits the tank to little more than a slow-moving perimeter cannon essentially. Almost every version of him since has just gone straight for the one, huge-ass spaceship alt. mode (Energon Omega does split, but this is in part to facilitate the gimmick of shoving Optimus Prime into the torso more easily, and the two train and ship halves can combine nose-to-tail anyway).

I'm a big fan of Defensor, I like the idea of him and the Protectobots all being blue collar workers.

Actually Sky Lynx's parts are two seperate entities. It's either that or he's schizophrenic because I've watched the bird and the lynx converse with each other when separated.

The idea he's schizo actually sounds interesting - dude's got an ego rivaling Starscream after all.

And the other two 'bots who split into separate components - the Duocons - are schizophrenic so there is precedence.

I vote Devestator primarily because of his presence in the '86 movie which I absolutely love.

I was wondering what Reflector would be classified as. He's kind of an odd ball when it comes to multiple, sentient beings combining together. Instead of becoming a larger bot they are three individual minds who combine into a unified alt-mode. Correct me if I'm wrong but as far as my knowledge goes there is no other group of transformers who does this.

The Insecticons combined into a single alt-mode in Hearts of Steel. Junkheap does it as well in AoE, but they're also KSI built Transformer and are kind of mindless drones (I guess the multiple reflectors also share a mind depending on the continuity too).

Optimus also talked to Roller, who is technically also Optimus.

A good example would probably be one computer utilizing separate slave components. A computer talks to the components and tells them what to do. But when you refer to the system, you just say "I'm going to go work on The Computer."
