We don’t mind a bit of controversy in the opinions of our Collector’s Corner Source Interviewees, so the decision to showcase the collection and thoughts of well-known mint sealed G1 Action Figure Authority graded Transformers collector Jon Krause was an easy one. Jon’s professional artwork and illustrations have graced some of the world’s finest, most read and most prestigious publications, so his controversial pro-AFA views are not as conveniently Neanderthal as we would like to believe. Unlike some who use the grade on their museum-quality Transformers as just one more thing to beat other collectors over the head with, Jon’s appreciation comes from a different place. His artist’s tools are sharp, but the words are blunt, enjoy!

What advice would you give a new collector starting out today?

Jon Krause: Enjoy yourself, this is a hobby. Hobbies are made to escape life’s drama, not add to it. Collect in a way that makes you happy as an individual, and hopefully the kind of collector you want to be will develop as you work your way through the information available.

Now that's some WISE advice to us all, I have been a victim to my own COD in collecting lol and have got frustrated over little things! Sometimes you gotta just ROLL OUT and enjoy the ride!!

Jon has been a great addition to the collecting community. It's nice to see an afa collector who doesn't pull punches. Plus he loves pickles:)

nice article, i can see his side with the illustration aspect, some afa collectors i enjoy reading their posts and interacting with. some others act more elitist. which is probably why they get the flak they do. but then again, there are mib and to a lesser extent loose collectors that act like that lol

I just wish I could have featured more of Jon's collection, and showcased more of his post-1984 treasures because really it is one of the most beautifully preserved G1 collections I have ever seen. Completely apart from what anyone of us thinks of the AFA, collections like Jon's are something I am very very glad exist. And his willingness to share pictures and info with me will assist in articles, proving theories etc for years to come.

    All the best

Why is there no picture of the Beagle? There's one of the Maserati.

    J/k. :)

I always enjoy the articles you write and interviews you conduct Maz, but this has become one of my favorites.
