You would think it’s getting harder to find collectors with something fresh to contribute during these interviews, but there is certainly no shortage of quality when it comes to those left to feature. This month’s spotlight falls on Italian Transformers and pre-Transformers collector Marco Salerno. A shining beacon of humility, modesty and quick with praise for collectors he feels are more worthy than he of said spotlight, Marco is an example to all of how best to make use of the information available to today’s collector. One of the most knowledgeable, well-read and cultured members of the community gives us a glimpse into his quietly but seriously stunning collection, and we do hope your eye is as good as Marco’s in spotting some of the indescribably rare toys he’s found and subgroups he has completed. Marco says it’s an honour to be featured, but it is we who are truly honoured… Collector Interview 07 – Marco Salerno | Source Blog <- CLICK TO READ All the best Maz
It was a pleasure to give Marco a chance to share! Originally mate I just sent out a group email to all the people I had gotten to know and respect in the community down the years, people I spoke to on a daily, weekly or monthly basis who I had met online or in person since I began collecting who i felt had amazing collections, valuable insight to share and wisdom that others could benefit from the way I have. I have published nearly the interviews that those recipients have provided thus far, with a couple in waiting I have also tried to keep it varied, variant collectors, mini collectors, Diaclone collectors, JTF collectors, prototype collectors, TF collectors... Great article as usual Maz! Just wanted to comment on this: Do you know about this story Maz? This is some really sick stuff if true.
I have heard reference to it before, I know it's not a Transformers-related story, more a collector of older Japanese-style robots. Very sick indeed. All the best Maz
This interview had quite a bit of shocking moments to me too outside of that, especially this one as well: I really enjoyed this interview, Marco seems like a great guy. Thanks again Maz and for taking the time to answer reader questions as well
thanks maz and puffmarko, great read, and i have noticed like three ebay dealers that i paid attention to adding in unjustified "inflation" hence why ebay is my last resort
Another great article in the series and a fantastic collection. Go to Marco's website if you haven't already. There are more great pics in there.
A very nice interview, once again! I'm always interested in the Gig versions of Transformers, both in the Diaclone style packaging and in the G1 style. And Puffmarko's Gig collection (and of course his knowledge) is simply amazing!
Good job Maz Maz, your work is what keeps it fresh and real for G1 collectors such as myself. Keep up the good work. Jim
Your articles/interviews keep getting better and better Maz. Love the pics on this one especially the minis. Marco also gave invaluable advice about collecting and life's priorities. The last pic made me hungry, hehe.
I love Marco's attitude and outlook on collecting. Even though he is more G1 focused, I agree on pretty much all his pointers, suggestions & comments, and I think they can definitely be applied to a much wider base, no matter what it is you collect. Even though I don't understand/value all the rarity of all the different things he has (and I'm sure there's quite a few pricey ones), he never came off as bragging about any of it. It was just "hey, here's my stuff, enjoy looking!". I dig that because the article was never about any particular piece or pieces, it was just him discussing why he enjoyed this hobby so much. Good stuff.
Thank you guys for reading and appreciating my interview. Maz was very patient and kind, because I wrote maybe too much: so I hope I didn't bore you all. Any other feedback will be welcome. My website is just born, I have so little time to update it! If you want to publish there your collection, please contact me. I don't like people that are collecting only to show off their toys, it can presuppose a not genuine passion. I wrote a lot of advices for new comers in this hobby because I made a lot of mistakes in this sense in past years. It is better to be known for what you think, not for what you have. For every questions, consider me at your total disposal, here or by PM.
This is a great interview! I thoroughly enjoyed the read, and it's great we have guys like puffmarko in our hobby The collection is equally as awesome
I cannot be taking any credit for this being a good read, it was all Marco's wisdom and visual candy that has left you guys with asuch a positive impression. I really didn't have much editing to do either, I much prefer longer interviews than short ones where I have to ask people to expand on their answers. Thanks for everything Marco All the best Maz
