Heya folks. Question. I have been collecting for 20+ years and have amassed what my wife and I suspect is a rather large collection. It's "suspected" because it has never been on display. I get something and when it is enough to go into a tub it gets packed away for the eventual day I would have somewhere to display everything.

Over the years it has began to feel like that day would never come. Or I'd be too old to give a damn when it sashayed around. The quarantine though has allotted some time for some balls to begin rolling. We live in a century old house, and with this time off we renovated empty upstairs rooms so our kids could have their own separate rooms. That left their downstairs room available. It's roughly a 10x10. My wife is afraid it won't be large enough and now I'm starting to have this feeling it isn't either. Taking into consideration I own a USS Flagg, Masters of the Universe Classics Grayskull with the Snake Mountain on preorder. All of the Toy World scaled combiners and FT Omega. The Giga Dinos. Flip side is everything is in a 10x15 storage unit with 90% still boxed / packaged so when they come out of their packaging it would free up space and if it fit in there...

The other option was to have a two story garage built. We own a classic car that could really use a garage before we start in on it any further. If we size it out as a double with a second floor it could net me a 20x20 room but we're talking money (and money I don't exactly have right now.)

Long story short. How big of room is your "room?"

My mancave is approx 50m2. Will be posting updated pics of my collection shortly but the current set up has 19 detolfs plus a couple other larger cabinets. Plus lounge, TV and arcade machine. Realistically that's enough!

Sell all of it and go exclusively Legends... then you can get away with a few cabinets!

Mine is roughly 400 sq ft. Here's a video from last year

Edit: quite a lot has changed since then. I'll be adding 2 or 3 more detolfs once the quarantine is lifted

I have them in one cabinet in my new work/music room. I'm getting 2 detolfs to spread out part of the collection.

But after packing them and already having sold some figures off, I think about maybe having a deeper look into what I may still keep and what not. I do not have to own everything that I think is cool. That would take up too much room than I want to spend on this.

I don't even care for the money, it's just the space involved. Although, if I had more money and could have a dedicated collection room, I might think different. Because if you think about it, the rent is the limiting factor basically.

And the place I dedicated for my collection is what is enough and too many figures crammed into that space make the collection look less visually appealing. Of course collectors might think "Oh, he has that figure and that figure" but if we are not posting these pictures on the internet, the only collector who sees my collection is myself.

And as such we need to weed out all unnecessary things to only keep the highlights that make a visually appealing collection that makes us happy.

I think, if I could have a whole room dedicated to only my collection and nothing else, I think I still would not cram everything in there, if I had stuff like Castle Grayskull and stuff, I think I would build landscapes to put these in, so that it basically looks like an exhibition, rather than a collection. Then you could create new scenes every now and then and even people who are not interested in your collection theme might still think "Woah, that's awesome". And it would be like a giant playsets. Something we would have dreamt of as kids :D

I hope some of my thoughts might be helpful for your situation :)

OK, that's also cool. Like a museum and a comic shop in one. I like it :)

My apartment is only 20m2. I've got 2 Detolfs and a small bookshelf for my collection. This takes up about a fourth of my apartment.

I prioritized toy display over trivial things like a dinner table or tv :D

If I were you, I'd just see how much you can fit in the 10x10 room, starting with your favorite figures. Whatever doesn't fit, you could either leave in storage or perhaps sell. It's always a good idea to go through your belongings and re-evaluate if you really want/need certain things.

    Good luck and have fun!

Awesome statue and bust collection. It's wild because in the 2000s I used to own a toy store/ comic shop and the Palisades Bumblebee was my store's exclusive. So to see it rockin in someone's collection here on the threads all these years later is awesome. And an AP one!!

A full size bedroom with 9 detolfs but I still dream of a TARDIS just for Transformers.

Lord knows wtf I'm going to do with Unicron.

Wow really I had to Photoshop the Non-Stop toys logo for my display card. Love the Palisades statues.

Even if you don't have enough room to display 'everything', just being able to display some of it will be a thrill for you, I am hoping. You have amassed so much stuff, but have yet to fully enjoy most of them, until they are put out to be admired.

You can always plan to rotate in/out some of the things that you put out to display, every so often. It can help to keep the display from getting too stale.

Moving to a new house soon with a 3x3.7m room BUT that will also include a computer desk and a sofa-bed. Luckily I only collect MP and G1 (G1 collection is as complete as I care about).

To be honest I love a small, curated collection way more than packed shelves full of everysinglefigureeverreleasedevah so I only need one wall with some shelving. Plan is currently to have a row of Besta's to store all the boxes with the figures displayed on shelves above. I've been using the IKEA office planner tool but it lacks Besta's so this is only rough. The shown units are larger than Besta's so that wall will be 4-Besta's wide.

The Star Wars Lego, on the other hand, will need to find a home elsewhere!

... But yeah, sounds like you need more display space than I do. :)
